Dancevic should be given a lot of credit for going with Pospisil over FAA this week, which may be singularly responsible for winning this group. Most wouldn't have had the guts.

Either Australia or Belgium are winnable in the QF, although I'd much rather face Belgium than have to deal with a motivated Kyrgios.

Yep. dancevic really knows his Posp well at this point, FAA was an unknown after being off for so long.
It's incredible how Posp has flourished under Dancevic. Is that just a coincidence? i.e. having more to do with Posp recovering from the back surgery, or was there something about that pairing that got Posp on the right track?

Again, Can has just had a historic win over Aus and nobody here?????
What gives?

Anyway, total credit to Pospisil fo0r how he played in that doubles. Somehow managed to win with all those errors from Shap.

The first day it was supposed to be FAA but he wasn’t ready after that Vasek played too well to be replaced.

Vasek served out the doubles like a boss :)

Yes, that win is credit to Vasek.
Denis wasn't that great in doubles and i think a better doubles team will make them pay, but Vasek carried them for now.
Maybe they stand a chance against either Russia or Serbia--not Spain.

I'm pretty sure that was just an excuse. FAA has always been (more or less) fine, but Dancevic thought Pospisil was a better option right now. He was right.

Vasek pretty much won today's tie singlehandedly and completely carried Denis over the 2nd half of the doubles match. Denis is going to have to play a lot better if they hope to advance in the SFs. It's pressure of the kind he's never dealt with before, but I think he can do it.

Why not Spain? They're stronger than Serbia, but it's largely the same kind of team now with RBA gone and Nadal can only win one match by himself in this format. I'll take my chances with Pospisil against PCB right now.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Russia or Serbia first up. I'd prefer Russia honestly. With Djokovic, you know you're getting one loss basically assured and that leaves you with no margin for error.

I am not sure what’s the point to make up the elaborate excuse as the tennis explanation is very easy one to give .

Is it really? Playing a journeyman ranked 150 over the top 20 ranked future Canadian star is easy? Many people would have criticized him immediately had that excuse not been given and raked him over the coals if it didn't work out.

Arash Madani even said today after this tie that FAA is not hurt at all right now and basically implied that he never really was at all to start the week (which was only three days ago). This was Dancevic going with the hot hand all the way and it's a great thing that he did.

I didn't realize RBA had left when i wrote that.
But with Spain i give Rafa a singles win and i give them a doubles win too. Rafa is an excellent doubles player, I would say better than Posp, and anyone else they use will be a better doubles player than Shap.
I agree Posp would probably beat PCB.

Serbia is guaranteed one win, but their 2nd isn't strong (Dusan) and they don't have any doubles specialist on the team.
Russia could win both singles. Not sure what KK and Rub are like as doubles players.

Next round will be tougher for sure and i think we've done so well up till now. Still wonder why Aus didn't use Nick instead of Millman? I know Hewitt doesn't like him ...

First time logging in since the website look has changed but it's definitely worth it with how the Davis Cup is going for team Canada. I keep thinking back to when Pospisil was making his comeback at Wimbledon and the few weeks after. Many posters here thought he was finished and that he should just focus on the doubles going forward. Pretty crazy to think he's the main reason that team Canada is now in the semi-finals...he must be on an extreme high and this tournament will go down as the highlight of his career for sure if Canada can go all the way. Denis also deserves a ton of credit, especially for that epic win against Berrettini.

As a Felix fan, I'm not disappointed at all that he's sitting on the bench all week. Sure, it's easy to say now with how things have played out but in all honesty his game still isn't where it should be even if fully healthy. He'll have a bunch of other opportunities in the future to help out the team.

Looking forward to the semi-final...of course the other country Canada faces will be favorites but you just never know with this new format which provides the underdogs better chances for an upset.

I find it very hard to believe people would have criticize Dancevic for saying something like Vasek is in better form.
On Monday, they went with tweet, press release explaining the switch. That seems way overboard and unnecessary if not true

FAA's form is totally unknown at this point, he hasn't played in a match in a long time, and as i recall he wasn't so great at the end of the season.
Vasek is playing the best tennis of his life, makes total sense to go with Posp, a no-brainer IMO.
It would be different if Felix had been playing recently, not injured, and they knew where he was at in hiis game.

I think what's happened with frank and Vasek is incredible. That vasek is finding his game under frank--who never really found his own (but played some very amazing DC ties) is quite the story.
