Looks like the talks are underway. Seems only sensible, imho.

International Tennis Federation president David Haggerty said yesterday that plans for merging the Davis Cup and the ATP Cup into a single men’s world team event could be in place by June.

Speaking at the Australian Open in Melbourne, Haggerty said, according to Reuters: “We are talking to the ATP, we’ve heard the players’ comments, we know that the ATP has as well.

“It would make sense to have one event that could be the team event for the men. We’re having discussions and we’ll see what happens.

I wonder how they're gonna make this work with ATP having a contract with Tennis Australia for ATP Cup and ITF having a contract with Kosmos for the Davis Cup Finals. As I see it Davis Cup has the shit slot in the calendar when most players want to be on vacation rather than playing another tournament and none of this would have happened if Kosmos hadn't refused to agree to January as a date for the Davis Cup Finals and so turning their back on ATP and Tennis Australia and taking their plan to ITF instead.
