D. Young: "I'm starting to play better. I put the work in and I'm playing well"

“I like the big stage a little more than the challengers and everywhere else,” he said. “I feel like I play better against higher level players," said the Chicago native, a family friend of rising WTA star Taylor Townsend. "I just feel like I put the work in and I'm playing well. I'm just letting my game flow and do what it does.

“Now I'm starting to play better,” continued Young, who has been working this season with Craig Boynton, as well as his parents. “Not better but more consistent than before. Whenever it comes, I'm going to be there and ready and happy it happens.

“So I'm not going to be mad it didn't happen earlier, because that's in the past and I can only deal with what's in the future.”

With Jack Sock winning an all-American second-round clash with Steve Johnson 7-5, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the third round in Paris for the first time, and American No. 1 John Isner through to a third-round match-up with Tommy Robredo, Young spies an opportunity for the Americans to enjoy yet more success on the dirt in Paris.

“I think it's great,” said Young. “The guys are playing well. Obviously the draw helps out a lot in tournaments like this. Everybody can easily play a Top 10 guy, except for John, and go out.

“The draws have really opened up with Steve and Jack. I think with [Tommy] Haas going out, it's definitely opened up. They have the potential to make the fourth round. With Wawrinka going out in my half, it's not like it's an insurmountable task for me to make the fourth round as well. But I'm going to take it one match at a time and see how it goes.”

Donald Young, ranked 79th, said his victory in the first round here was his first win on red clay outside the United States in his career. “I kind of try to stay away from it, to be honest,” he said of clay.

Young also reached the third round of the Australian Open this year, giving him the best consecutive showings at majors in his career.

Isner, who will play No. 17 Tommy Robredo on Friday, said it would be “a very big deal” for an American man to reach the second week here. “I’m not putting extra pressure on myself, but I haven’t made a second week of a Slam in quite some time,” Isner said Wednesday.

Sock, who goes on to face Serbia's Dusan Lajovic, added, "We're all just working hard and pushing forward to keep advancing. We come to these tournaments to win matches, and we believe in ourselves that we can win matches and play in the second week and keep advancing. I think the three of us that are remaining are doing a good job right now, and can hopefully keep it going."

All jokes aside, he seriously has improved quite a bit. His mentality is stronger now and he plays tactically smarter. He's still prone to the bad losses and patches of terrible play because he's still the Don, but the bad patches are shorter now.

Who cares?
Why should I care about a bum who can't beat anyone decent? And why do you keep supporting people who can't win? lol. I mean it's not like Don plays an artistic form of tennis. At least Jerzy's game is manly

Because The Don is rising.

What's interesting in supporting just players that win all the time? You wanna tell me that? You see I do support some top players (Murray, Djokovic and Delpo, I always like watching Clownga and Tweetdych), however it would be boring just to support those guys. Having some lower ranked players that are usually mugs to follow is also cool because it's a rollercoaster ride supporting them.

I was going to say YoungTards lost their shit with my last comment but the guy is such a nobody, I don't think he qualifies for Tarddom.

You seem like a fun guy to have at parties, SheepleBuster. I bet all your friends think you are a ray of sunshine, with your current attitude.

Tell me ... is this the first post of mine you have read? :D Also, did I hurt your feeling because I attacked an "American" player? You see, I already know more about you than you probably will know about me in a year. You people are so easy to read it's not even funny.

Donald does not play dull tennis. He comes to net a good bit, is aggressive and is high risk. Which can lead to his own demise a lot of time, but it's interesting to watch.

You think he's a veteran because he's been on the tour for a long time already but he still likely won't hit his best for a few years.
