Sounds a bit weird, I think Federer will win in 4 though. If Tomic serves well, all sets will be tight.

This.
Commentators are more promoters than analysts. They want big tv ratings. So of course Courier says some ilogical things.

Fed will win in 3 eassy sets. Last fall when they played in the Davis Cup, Fed was comming from USO, had almost no time to adapt to the time change and surface, he also played dubles and still won quite eassy.

He did take a set on grass in the Davis Cup playoff last year in Sydney 6-3 in the 3rd

The good thing for Federer is that that was his first meeting with Tomic so he will have some understanding of his game which may just benefit him more than Tomic

Federer 6-4 6-3 6-3

Tomic is Fed's biggest fan.
Courier couldn't say anything else and builds some excitement for the Aussies.
Looking at some of these upcoming matches, the top players are miles above the rest with skill, endurance and everything else.

After Fed flew through half the Earth to play there having already played a doubles match plus a singles against Hewitt, all in 5 sets.

It seems these details are lost on most 'analysts' but Fed was really tired back then. That Djoko SF could not have been easy for him to swallow and he did say that whole Davis Cup tie was a blur for him.

The last time I checked anyone who enters a tournament has a chance of winning their matches...
Of course Tomic has his chance against Federer as well. As others have already said, Courier is just hyping up the match for attention value with his words.
