There's no doubt Nadal at Roland Garros this year was his weakest clay level he has ever been, followed closely follow by RG 2009 perhaps. But, even with this decline, hypothetically, could any version of Federer at the RG such as his previous years when he was his peak til now could beat him? Or would the mental block and matchup disadvantage be still too much of a hindrance?

I would say Federer at the RG in 2005-2007 and 2011 could beat Nadal RG 2015 in a close 4 sets.

However, in all the other years, I think Nadal would win in 4 sets.

What do you guys think?

No, he cannot. The mental block is just too strong.

2006-2007 Fed would win. This nadal horrible.

Definitely fed will be able to fight toe to toe if there is time machine to bring back to same age.

Just a terrible match-up stylistically for Fed. I don't see any version of Federer beating this version of Rafa at RG.

Who cares? You don't always get to play the worst version of someone at a slam.

eh..are u kidding? the Federer-Nadal Clay encounters in 2005-2007 were basically a pre-match tossup..Federer was taking 6-1/6-0 sets off Nadal when the latter was just about or get done with rattling off an 81 match winning streak on the surface..Not to mention the gazzillion BPs and legit look in swing sets of their RG matches at the time..Federer 05-07 would annihilate the 2015 Claydal..

Federer 2005, 06, 07, 09 and 11 would beat 2015dal, seriously.

Nadal was that bad

2011 Fed got only one set and got breadsticked by a shaky Nadal, who was a set down to Isner previously, so most likely even 2015 Nadal beats any version of Federer.

This. Even so-called peak 2006 Federer choking after 6-1 in the 1st set tells us everything about Fed's inability to mentally compete with Nadal.

Probably not. Extreme match-up disadvantage.

The level of play Federer had in 06 completely shits on your precious Djokovic, while present day Nadal would get bageled in three.

Lol. Nadal this year played two close sets to Djokovic and only in third appeared to have lost confidence. Would Nadal lose confidence playing to Fed in RG? No way. 4 sets over Fed and not a particularly close match.
