the biggest one is his lack of aggression on hardcourts and carpet.
too often after an unsuccesfull attack he switches into defensive moonballing mode
and the player with the right weapons tears him apart. and he has the game to be agressive.
guess it's just his nature chasing balls and moonbaliling

good one. he definitely has to adopt a more assault minded approach on hard courts. its either attack or be attacked on hard courts.

exactly. and it's not like he has no weapons, it just his mindset i guess.

and offcourse a better serve would help.

Yes, and if he attacks then he will be outplayed fair and square by a lot of players. Nadal isn't an amazing attacking player and he never will be. If he plays a game more similar to HC specialists then he isn't going to get wins because he will be playing the same style but at a worse level. When styles clash things are different, not to mention Nadal is exceptionally good at the style he performs. If he was attacking all the time he would make a lot of UE's and you can't just get better at it overnight, it takes time but realistically if Nadal was ever going to play an out and out attacking game he would need to have that style already and he doesn't. He can find the right balance of defence and attack to suit his game but he can't just change styles.

excellent post. right balance is important for him. a more dominating serve or even a more reliable serve also goes a long way on hard courts. as it stand now, they remove him from the center of the court on his serve and on his return. so he is on the defensive from get go.

translation: in order for him to be more assault minded, he needs a better control of the points and he needs to control the center of the court. he can only do that if he improves his serve and his return game.

If he decrease the intensity of his play which should prevent him to destroy his body, he has a lot more years in front of him. Think that the new era is starting with Nadal certainly as one of the main contenders.
