Who has had the better career?

They both have the same GS title. Cilic has had 3 more finals, all in different slams. Both have won one masters title .

If we talking about career it’s clearly Cilic and it’s not even close. We ain’t talking about so called „potential” or overrated „H2H vs BIG3 statistics”.
Slams are key statistics and Marin made finals at three different locations while DelPo at only one.

Well what about the fact Cilic should be tainted? Man should have been banned for life.

Delpo is clearly the better player but I think Cilic had more success overall as a player and of course Delpo’s injuries played a huge part in what coulda been but it is what it is.

It's still Del Potro, in spite of injuries. Both are obviously extremely accomplished players, but Del Potro moreso.

Let's compare:

Grand Slams: Cilic - 1, Del Potro - 1
Grand Slam finals: Cilic - 3, Del Potro - 2
Grand Slam semifinals: Cilic - 5, Del Potro - 6
Grand Slam quarterfinals: Cilic - 13, Del Potro - 13
ATP Titles: Cilic - 18, Del Potro - 22
Masters Titles: Cilic - 1, Del Potro - 1
Masters finals: Cilic - 1, Del Potro - 4
Davis Cup wins: Cilic - 1, Del Potro - 1
Olympic Medals: Cilic - 0, Del Potro - 2
YE Top 5 seasons: Cilic - 0, Del Potro - 3
YE Top 10 seasons: Cilic - 4, Del Potro - 5
Best WTF/YEC finish: Cilic - RR x 4, Del Potro - F

If you value making one more Slam final then Cilic has had a better career, but when you look at it holistically, that's not the case.

Obviously subjective but the players Del Potro has beaten in his runs are a different caliber than those that Cilic beat.

This may be the fine example that sometimes the eye test and woulda coulda shoulda absolutely and objectively SHOULD count.

Excellent stats mate.
and if we check the h2h, it is 13-2 for Delpo, only 2 defeats at his worst GS, the Australian, with one defeat in 2010, when Delpo was already suffering much from his wrist, just a few weeks before his first operation...

They are pretty even, even if Delpo is obviously the better player and has caused more problems for the Big 3.
Cilic has done slightly better at the Slams overall, Delpo 4 more titles and 2 Olympic medals.
