lol Vesely :rolls::rolls::rolls:
Hysterical. This dude's backhand on hardcourt is non-existent, he can't defend the backhand wing, at all on a hard surface.

His movement is laboured and obviously he has more time for his forehand on the clay. It is going to take him a long, long while to become adjusted and acostumed to hard.
Vesely :spit: Against AHM on hard. :spit:
Not like Vesely is a hard court expert.
Hahahaaa!! Amazing result. Vesely is so useless these days. There are actually people around him claiming that he has TOP10 potential, LOL.. What more than AHM does he want in ATP R2 event?? At least he was able to beat a local amateur in R1. His return of serve is incredibly pathetic. AHM was just better.
Neither is a really good hardcourter. Wouldn't call it a big upset. Still must be depressing for Vesely fans considering that it was 3rd outdoor HC match for AHM since US Open 2013.
Vesely just sucks period. He is just not that good

Exactly, his technique on the backhand is one of the worst I ever saw (including club level players).
Young guy lsot. Good for the game

He isn´t that far off actually. It´s very weird.

No. Just stop. Seriously, just stop there. It only looks like that because he is playing against professional tennis players who hit the ball hard, atleast considerably harder than your bog standard club level player. You have to watch some futures 10k tournaments and you will find good players there too, you have no idea how hard it is to be in the PROs mate. They make it look easy, it's not.
Vesely was quite atrocious in the first round too. But this remains a bad loss.

AHM in the QF of a hard event :spit:

The quality of your opponent doesn't effect your technique (i.e. grip, take back, follow through). OK, if your opponent hits the ball extremely hard you have to shorten the swing sometimes but that should actually help Vesely since he is only blocking with his backhand and not able to hit through properly. And most club level players should know that using a continental grip on your upper hand is not the smartest choice (apparently Vesely doesn't).
vesely  what a loss, what a wasted chance...

The quality of your opponent doesn't effect your technique, but your technique is tested more, relative to the standard in quality of your opponent. So no, you are wrong, the level of your opponent matters, it matters alot. I can't believe we are actually having this banal discussion.

If he is playing club players, he has more 'time' to hit the ball and therefore his technique and his racquet head speed doesn't have to be as good than if he is playing a player on the ATP or Challenger tour. If Vesley was playing a club player he wouldn't have to 'defend' the backhand side the way he does at this level, he would have so much time and his technique would be much cleaner. You are using guess work. It's obvious.

You cannot fight attack with attack, unless you have incredible timing. So what's left for you to do when you are being attacked? Two options, defend or counter-attack. To defend you need good movement and to counter-attack you need an ability to absorb the pace of your opponent. You cannot combat attack with more attack. If the bloke is firing down bullets at you, you don't just try and hit the ball harder than him, you'll never hit.

Being able to defend the backhand or forehand requires good footwork also, it doesn't just require good technique and racquet head speed. You need good footwork and movement to that side. Vesley is usually on the defensive when it comes to his backhand, because he is a big fella and sluggish. 6 foot 5 inches tall.

I have always thought AHM had a solid game since seeing him at the U.S. Open a few years ago. He has underachieved. His problem seems to be of the mental variety. Vesely, on the other hand seems technically flawed on the BH as others on here have pointed out. It certainly is no weapon and is attackable. I haven't been impressed with his indoor hard or outdoor hard game. He seems solid on clay. I would also say that Vesely seems pretty solid mentally, especially for a 21 year old.
