Re: Chengdu Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated September 21, 2016)

“I want to take this opportunity to announce our doubles wild cards which will be going to Wu Di and Bai Yan as well as He Yecong and Sun Fajing and we are also very pleased to be awarding a singles wild card to Wu Di,” Tournament Director Nick Freyer said “We are looking forward to some great doubles action during the Chengdu Open. “There are so many great combinations and the fans are going to get quite a thrill seeing these guys on court.”
So there's the final WC to Wu and the two doubles WC to chinese teams

Re: Chengdu Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated September 14, 2016)

He's likely playing for race points, not ranking.
It doesnt matter, of his 18 qualifying tournaments he will have to count 4 Slams, 8 Mandatory Masters, 4 ATP 500 and so only 2 ATP 250 remain, he already won 3, is in the final of another, and playing this one...

Sorry, that is not correct.

Aside from the 12 mandatory events, a player can add points from any 6 tournaments, regardless as to whether he is a commitment player or not.

Regulation 9.03.A

Commitment Players. The year-end Emirates ATP Rankings is based on calculating, for each player, his total points from the four (4) Grand Slams, the eight (8) mandatory ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments and the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals of the ranking period, and his best six (6) results from all ATP World Tour 500, ATP World Tour 250, ATP Challenger Tour and Futures tournaments...
This has been in place since 2012. In 2011, the rule read:

Commitment Players. The year-end South African Airways ATP Rankings (singles) is based on calculating, for each player, his total points from the four (4) Grand Slams, the eight (8) mandatory ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments and the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals of the ranking period, and his best four (4) results from all ATP World Tour 500 tournaments played in the calendar year, one (1) of which must follow the US Open and the best two (2) results from all ATP World Tour 250, ATP Challenger Tour and Futures Tournaments...
So while a commitment player has to play in 4 events which counts towards the 500 quota, they arent necessarily added to his ranking if he has better 250 results.

Yeah, I know it now, sorry, I misunderstood the rule about 4 events. Mandatory 0 for missing one or more will have to be counted, but others might be replaced.
