AMERSFOORT, Netherlands (AP) -- Second-seeded Juan-Ignacio Chela beat top-seeded Albert Costa 6-1, 7-6 (4) Sunday in the final of the Energis Open.
The championship of the clay court tournament was delayed for 1 hour, 45 minutes because of showers, and courts of the Bokkeduinen sports club played slow after being left uncovered. Organizers reduced the final from best-of-five to best-of-three sets.
In the fourth game, Chela forced three break points, converting the last when the Spaniard drove the ball long.
Chela dominated the first set and used an early break in the second to take a 4-2 lead before showers returned and play was delayed for more than two hours.
Costa, the French Open champion, saved a match point at 5-3, and Chela double faulted twice as the set reached 5-5.
Each player held serve, but Costa squandered points with four errors in the tiebreaker, including an easy drive-volley hit wide on match point, giving 21-year-old Chela his second ATP title.
