Agassi is the first, just for his self-control and dedication he still puts in his game after all the years... then he's always had an aura, a little something that made him a big star from the begining... there might be some charisma somewhere.
Safin is also charismatic by his looks, his size, and his honest personality
Federer will be more when older, but still I think guys piss in their pants nowadays in the locker room before playing Fed.
In the past, I thinks Sampras was very chrismatic, as well as Connors and Becker....

Although I would probably pick some player with a very poor ranking, I'm going with Marat. He's a dag. I like dags.

I m surprised that Fed has 0 votes so far. I thought Fed fans considered him to be "Jesus."

JTipson, no one on this board seems to like Roddick so I didn't put him in.
I agree with you on Sampras, he was the most uncharismatic tennis player I have ever seen.

I'm not a particular fan of his, but surely Roddick should be on this list.

mdhubert - what makes you think Sampras was charismatic? I can't think of a word that describes him worse than that!
I think you're charismatic when you impose respect naturally, without doing gesticulations and controversy... for me Pete was charismatic, explain me why he was not...

Charisma: A rare personal quality attributed to leaders who arouse fervent popular devotion and enthusiasm. Personal magnetism or charm.

I really don't think Sampras had these. He won fans through his game and ability to win, not his personality.

You know I've often heard that in the locker room players were impressed by Sampras, he had an aura, we can call it "magnetism". Now maybe you know him better than the ATP pros, but I have my doubts.
When a guy throws up in a 5th set tie-break and goes on to play with courage and determination, he can arouse "fervent popular devotion". Ask Djokovic what he would have done in this case...

No, of course I don't know Sampras, any more than you do, I expect.

I'm sure he had a reputation in the locker room, but I think that came from his status as a tennis giant, not because people were drawn to him for his personal magnetism. I can't say I've ever read anything where other players were saying what a wonderful guy Sampras was, for instance. Sure, they pay tribute to his game, his dominance, his mental strength, but his charisma? Nah.

I disagree that Sampras aroused fervent popular devotion. Agassi certainly has done, but sorry, Pete didn't in general. And I don't understand the reference to Djokovic.
