Terrible draw for Petzschner, could have needed the points. So far the Bryans have always played well against him.

Jdi got a WC into the doubles draw despite eating a double bagel in qualies :spit:

Not a single American player with a WC in Houston in either the doubles or the main draw.

:haha: Ouahab/Rachidi beat Begemann/Knowle after losing the first set 1-6 and being down 2-6 and 7-9 in the super tb. Begemann helped with some dfs. Amazing scenes.

It is Knowle who double faulted, and who bitched about the opponents and the crowd. Begemann is an okay doubles player, but how on Earth could Knowle emerge as a doubles specialist, I wonder. His serve is beyond pathetic, he still weights 45 kg at most, unable to produce any sort of power, his baseline shots are unbelievably harmless, and his presence at the net is at best average. At 40, I think it is time to go home and take care of the kid.
Rachidi has great power; as far as Ouahab is concerned...a diet is planned? Even I am in better shape than he is. Plus, I had no idea he had been naturalized Moroccan and left the Algerian flag

Yeah, he has been playing for Morocco for some time now.

And I doubt a diet is planned :tape: He has been out of shape his entire career.

My bad the. I wasn't paying close attention to the match but I was listening to the commentator who kept saying that Begemann's serve is very weak and that he makes very few 1st serves and according to him he was the one who double faulted maybe he was mixing them the whole time. As for Rachidi he can hit with power but he barely controls his shots some of his misses are by a very large margin he's the definition of ballbasher. The positive surprise in this match was his volleying skills he did well at the net today.
Ouahab got the nationality towards the end of 2013. He's been living in Morocco for years and his wife is Moroccan.

Butorac/Groth bow out to Huey/Lipsky in Houston.

Berankis/Gabashvili d Delbonis/Lajovic in what must have been one of the year's weakest match-ups, but quite an exciting scoreline 4-6 6-2 19-17

I just noticed this in the draw. Why did Mirnyi bother to come play this tournament if it's with Jdi??

I can only assume he agreed to play here for some monetary compensation, but his scheduling has been generally poor over the last 16 months. It's one of the reasons why his ranking will probably drop outside of the top 70 after Monte Carlo.

Tipsarevic gifted a lot in the match tb, 3 terrible volley errors and unintelligent play from the baseline. On top of that 2-3 fluked points from the Bryans.

Bryan/Bryan d. Petzschner/Tipsarevic 5-7 6-2 13-11

They resisted pretty well in the 2nd set and they got broken on Mirnyi's serve from 40-15 or 40-30 up  Mirnyi had a long training session on Tuesday maybe he prefers this to a preparation without entering a tournament.

Ouahab/Rachidi got another win today  I didn't watch it but it could very well be a tank by Struff/Brown who are both out of singles.

Big shock: Berankis/Gabashvili d Bryan/Bryan 7-6 7-5

The unseeded team was up a break in the second set initially too, but the twins broke back.

Could be. I watched the doubles match and I thought Jdi played quite decent in the second set after a really poor performance in the first. It's too bad that they couldn't push it into the breaker.

Why does ATP Houston schedule Gabashvili's doubles before his singles match, on the same day, on the same court?!
He played v the Bryans in the day, then v Isner in the night

Bopanna/Mergea are waiting in final for their opponents already. :) :) Today another victory despite first set loss - this time over Andujar/Marach 5-7 6-3 10-8.

Actually this does happen, before more than now. the trend of it not happening started when Monaco needed to withdraw from the final of singles after injuring himself in the final of doubles.
