i dunno much about Rainer's game but somehow i have positive impressions from a year or two ago. i can't remember what it was he did back then that at least left the name imprinted on my memory. so...how good is his game? what are his strengths? what weaknesses can Agassi exploit? can he spank Agassi? *shudder*

no, i'm not Darren Cahill. i'm just curious. can Andre be denied   say it ain't so please. but speak the truth as well. anyone??

If Schuettler plays 'lights-out tennis', to quote Agassi about his impending match with Gambill at last year's US Open (and presumably cackling inside at the thought that Gambill could ever do that to him now), he may well grab a set but the problem is he doesn't have enough weapons to worry Andre.

His game is very like Hewitt's, right down to the backwards cap, but he doesn't have the same competitive edge, and Agassi just does everything that he does much, much better.

Still though, Schuettler had only played Roddick once before today, in Hamburg last year where he lost in straights. He's only played Agassi once and that was in Hamburg five years ago, where he lost in straights.

All just a little case of history repeating...?

Well, that's exactly it - Schuettler's a counter-puncher in the Hewitt mode, he likes people to come at him either by trying to blast him off court so he can scrap and get back into the point, or come to net where he can pick 'em off and pass them.

Agassi's not going to be doing either of those things, he'll be trying to grind down Schuettler as per all his opponents, but I actually think that Schuettler plays more aggressively and closer to the baseline than a lot of your classic clay-courters from Spain or South America.

Trouble is, it has to be very aggressive if it's going to dent Andre's defences at all.

I cant see Rainer winning, unless, like Rainer said, Andre eats something wrong the night before. He doesnt have the weapons to hurt Andre, and he plays a similar type of game, but not as good. Andre usually beats people who plays a similar game to himself because he can do everything they can but better. Andre is also playing amazing tennis, the best he's played for a while.
I think it'll be Andre in straight sets.

Well who did expect that Johansson would win last year against Safin ???

Rainer is playing very good but Andre also. It could be a good match and it will depends on the rally's because they both don't have a big serve!

Never say never but Agassi's experience should be enough to win this ... but I hope he wont, I always support the underdog ;)

That's true fleem...noone expected Johansson to beat Safin...but Safin ain't Andre....mentally the Vegas kid is allways ready (Safin collapses from time to time ;))

Unless the sky falls on his head, Andre wins :D

so cocky

I'll try again ;)...I'm very confident Andre's gonna take the title here :)..but it's tennis...and Rainer made it to the final...anything can happen :)

lol tfannis

Realistically, I find it highly unlikely that anybody is going to beat Andre. I had doubted that if the Ferrero semi ever happened that Andre would lose, and I doubt that he's going to lose now.

That said, I've also likely seen about 10 minutes of Rainer on TV in my entire life.

You probably won't believe me, but I did. Thomas was on his ultimate destiny run :D I wanted him to win, was cheering for him to win, and after the first set was sure he was going to win.

I don't think Rainer can defeat Agassihole, at least not easily. I think he'll give him a match (ie, not roll over and die for him) but ultimately they should just give the damn thing to Agassi and get it over with.

Of course, that said, I'm cheering for Rainer cause I loooooove surprises :D And he has nothing to lose, so he might as well go for it! :bounce:
