Expected result. Better Australian won. Good for the sport.

Kokkinakis played well and showed much potential, the other Australian was just too good and used experience to fight through. Bernie yet to drop a set.

I don't think Kokkinakis played well for most of the match. He remains a flashy Challenger player; he can play great tennis for a few games, but struggles to maintain that level. When he's off, like in the second set, he barely belongs in the Top 200. He has a lot of maturing to do if he wants to make it big.

Some players find their consistency quicker than others. It's better that he shows the ability to flash great potential while being inconsistent at a young age, than playing consistent to a good level, but never showing something potentially greater.

Tomic is so revolting. Plays well in January to get the Aussie media off his case, and then shits out awful performances for the remainder of the year. Absolute disgrace. Absolute DISGRACE. And he beats Kokki, a rising Australia star - just to get the media off his ass. More handsome, younger, more promising player lost here.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis are the true future for Australian tennis. Tomic is just... so... awful. I cannot wait for February when Tomic will be back to his usual standard.

True but I thought he was past this loss of self-belief/second set collapse thing he keeps doing...

Kokk played alright and there were some moments where he came alive but he needs to mature a lot. Hope he does well at the AO. As for Tomic he was too strong and you could clearly see his experience. His serve and his forehand were too strong for Kokk to bare. Hopefully he will actually play well outside Australia this year.

Sure, but I disagree with the judgment that he played well just because he hit some great winners and was keeping up with Tomic for part of the match.

I'm genuinely appalled by the amount of Australians who fail to recognize Tomic's talents. Sure you might not like the guy after some years of disappointment. Is it because you're still upset he withdrew against Nadal at the AO'14 and denied you a night of classic tennis? Anyone who watches a Tomic match can see the raw natural talent this youngster possesses. His forehand is unlike any on tour. It's so flat and powerful as if he's playing a game of squash. This shot is like a combination of the Federer and Laver forehand.

Difference really came down to first serve rates - 52% for Kokkinakis v 70% for Bernard. If the Kokk had been able to lift his as he did in rd 1, he could have taken it.

And if by some miracle Tomic does actually play like that outside of Australia for a change, he might gain some mainstream fans. Waiting for Godot...

Maybe not this year, but it will happen soon enough, Kokk will rise and Tomic will still be losing.

Nishikori should be the first real challenge to T-Bomb. Think it's possible for Bernie to reach (and therefore defend) the final, but we'll see.

Expected result. Kokkinakis showed glimpses of his class, especially in the first set, but Tomic was just too experienced.

Tomic vs Nishikori should be interesting.
