Yup, James won the second singles match for the U.S. against Lleyton 6-3 6-4.

The U.S. therefore wins this years Hopman Cup with Serena's victory over Alicia Molik and James victory over Lleyton. The dead rubber mixed doubles match of U.S. v. Australia should start about in an hour.

Go U.S.A.! :bounce: :D :bounce:

Blake upsets Hewitt to win Hopman Cup for United States
11 minutes ago

PERTH, Australia - James Blake upset Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-4 and Serena Williams (news - web sites) beat Alicia Molik 6-2, 6-3 Saturday to give the United States its second Hopman Cup team tennis title.

The victories gave the Americans a winning 2-0 lead over Australia with a mixed doubles match to follow. The United States were losing finalists the past two years.

It was Blake's first win in five matches against Hewitt and came in just 64 minutes.

Molik, ranked No. 94, had not dropped a set in the mixed teams event heading into the opening singles Saturday, but world top-ranked Williams was an easy winner.

Congrats to Blake. :D

Now he should use this to give him confidence on real deal matches. :)

the Hopman Cup proves once again that being number 1 is absolutely no guarantee of sure victory in the men's side, while the gap in the women's side is evidently wider... Interesting to note however that, while the top 10 or 12 are reasonably safe against lower ranked players, the gap is much narrower after those top positions, and a player like Alicia Molik, who is ranked in the low 90's, can be competitive against top 20 players and a top 10 in shaky shape... But both Kim and especially Serena are just too mentally strong to be upset and will hardly ever lose to somebody out of the elite players.... for Hewitt on the other hand, the winning ways are harder and steeper..
