The clay season is upon us and that means only one thing...Bernard Tomic awkwardly moving like his ice skating for the first time. He'll be defending a whopping 26 points this clay season. According to the ATP entry lists, Tomic will begin his conquest next week in Houston. This may not happen though due to a wisdom tooth problem (but he hasn't withdrawn from the tournament yet). Other tournaments he is expected to play later are Monte-Carlo and Munich.

Hah, I'd missed this one, great description.

Wisdom tooth plus tough schedule trying to shore up his ranking before clay season starts mean Houston and a few others likely to go. I still think he might learn to slide though...

Has already defended his points from the clay season last year. Potential for Round 3 against Djoko if Gulbis continues his bad form.

Noticed he's #26 in the new ATP rankings, so a new career high by 1 spot.
Didn't notice this one. Huge achievement to do it already only just after Miami. He's also 11th in the race for London. If he can maintain this ranking after the French Open, I'd say his top 10 potential for the end of the year.

Good win for Bernie, especially as Rosol is so comfortable on clay. He should go into his next match against AHM believing he can win it.

Another long three set loss in the third set tie-break for Bernie, going down to Italian qualifier Luca Vanni 63 46 67(1).
Not the result Tomic was looking for after winning the 1st set.

Is he really this useless on clay? I don't get it.

Yes! His generally poor movement on a tennis court is exposed on clay. His slice doesn't stay low but instead bounces up, putting it right in the strike zone of his opponent. And lastly, his ground strokes are flat- most successful clay courters tend to hit with heavy top spin to out grind opponents.
