Pam Shriver said to Boris watching in the stands:

"You're watching two of your peers. Andre is just two years younger than you. Pete just three. Do you ever get the itch to go back out there?'

Becker: "Very much so."

Come back Boris! Come back!

And you to Patrick!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I think Kiefer had a beef with Becker and refused to play DC a few years ago.

Wonder if its just a war of egos???

Think Kiefer had the beef with Becker because when Kiefer was the new kid on the block & everyone thought he was Germany's new hope, Boris gave him a tennis lesson on Wimbledon Crentre Court & he lidn't like being humbled by someone he thought of as "old"!

In all due respect, he really should just stick with the exhibitions.

If he wants any advice on why coming back would be a bad idea, would someone please point him in the direction of Borg?

Is it true Stich is no longer Daviscup coach of Germany because he wanted to select Boris, but Haas and Schuttler didn't want this?

Stich's plan to recall Becker goes up in smoke

Monday, September 9

Associated Press

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Michael Stich was fired as Germany's Davis Cup captain Monday, ending his plan to put retired star Boris Becker on the team.

Stich was sacked by the German federation only hours after saying that he would step down following the Sept. 20-22 World Group relegation playoff against Venezuela.

"It makes no sense to go on like this," federation president Georg von Waldenfels said.

Stich, who became captain one year ago, said earlier he would step down because top players and officials opposed his idea of bringing back Becker, who retired in 1999. Stich also criticized the federation's lack of support.

Leading German players Tommy Haas and Rainer Schuettler said they would not play if Stich recalled Becker for doubles duty.

Stich said this was "unacceptable," since picking the team was his responsibility.

"Despite everything, my job and my aspiration always has been to seek the best for the team. That's why I feel forced to accept the ultimatum from Tommy Haas and Rainer Schuettler and to give up the idea of calling up Becker," Stich said in a statement.

Later Monday, Stich picked Haas, Schuettler, Nicolas Kiefer and David Prinosil for the match against Venezuela.

Waldenfels said Patrik Kuehnen would replace Stich on the bench. A former Davis Cup player, Kuehnen is a television commentator.

Those were the times when Niki Pilic was German team captain.

Really, both the DTB (German tennis federation) and the players stir trouble before every damn Davis Cup tie. No wonder that interest in tennis is at an all-time-low here.

Kühnen the new captain  he's a jerk IMO.

Hopefully they will lose to Venezuela now.
