Kei was fantastic. Solid returning, heavy topspin forehands, accurate backhands, and great footspeed. He schooled Gulbis in 80% of the rallies.

Gulbis was bad in the 1st set, but he picked it up in set 2. He was serving absolutely massive and saved 9 BPs on serve alone.

Excellent result for tennis and humanity.

Kei is the better and more talented player, so barring injury he should win in 2. 6-3 6-4

Yes!

Trash and tennis being taken out and saved, respectively.

Very dissapointing match. Nishikori delivered, but Gulbis was clueless. As good as Nishikori was (and he really was, barely missing any balls), Gulbis was pretty awful, missing lots of easy shots (hitting most of them long) and not even for a moment in this match did he look like he was going to turn it around. On return Gulbis made it to deuce just once (when Nishikori double faulted twice) - and that's really saying something, especially on clay. If it wasn't for some big services on big points from Gulbis, this could have been even more one-sided than it was. A real letdown.

Too good from Kei again, total domination. If not for some great and clutch Gulbis serving this'd have been even more one-sided. If Kei keeps this up, he should win his first clay title tomorrow.

Nishikori rock solid from both wings, hitting deep balls preventing Gulbis to attack. Gulbis was clueless and hit UE often. Kei didn't face single BP and stayed focused during whole match.

Kei outplayed gulbis in every department except for serve.
He is 21-4 this season and 7th in race.
If he wins Barcelona, will be ranked 12. :worship:

Keep yourself fit Nishi, you can be a real threat at RG.

Better player won for sure, Kei has a lot more variety than Ernie. Hoping for a Nico-Kei final.

Great match from Nishikori, he's been in a great week and with this result he'll be ranked #13 Monday and probably seeded #12 for Madrid and Rome (Dimitrov will be 13th seed). This makes a huge difference since is much better to play Ferrer-Berdych-Murray-Raonic than Nadal-Djokovic-Wawrinka-Federer in R16).

As for Gulbis, one of those days only his serve worked. Lost a good opportunity for his 1st clay title.
