Good first and a generally good third set from Don. Had his chance to win in straights, after GGL was up a break in the second set after breaking in a long game at 3-*2, but he got too passive in the second set and it cost him. GGL looked very flat in the first set and a quarter, tons of errors early in rallies and on returns, no sharpness in his shots, movement nor serve. But he started raising his intensity and being more aggressive from the baseline and with his serve after he fell behind, and it payed off for him. His competitive spirit really showed itself today although he was mostly outplayed from a game standpoint.
Don was aggressive with his forehand and in coming to the net the first set, and parts of the second and third but got tight and passive in critical stages in both sets and he nearly choked away his advantage. Led *5-3 in the third set, which became 5-5 30-30. But he held on to take the victory. This is another character-building win, he could have gone away after the second set, but he hung in and focused when need be. Showing a lot more maturity and self-belief and has really started to grow into his game and as a professional.
