Britain's Elena Baltacha will take plenty of positives away from her French Open campaign after reaching the second round. The 27-year old was aiming to become the first British female to make the third round at Roland Garros since 1992, but despite putting in a brave performance, it proved to be a step too far for Baltacha. The British number one went down in three sets to American Vania King, 4-6 6-1 6-4, in a game that lasted over two hours.

Going into the match and Baltacha was ranked 32 places ahead of her opponent and it showed in the first set. The Britain took control of the game, breaking King to take the opening set. It was all downhill from there though for Baltacha and nine of the remaining 11 games went to the American. King deserved her place in the third round but Baltacha will definitely see it as a chance missed. Those looking at the Wimbledon specials will wonder if she can bounce back.

The focus for Baltacha will now switch to the grass court season and ultimately Wimbledon. The 27-year old will use tournaments in Birmingham and Eastbourne to prepare for the All-England Lawn Tennis Club. Baltacha was keen to take the positives out of her clay-court season and use them this summer on grass. As Wimbledon tips go, she won't win the final but she should make an impression.

"I've learned so much about my game, how much I've developed and I've used tactics and things that I've never really kind of had the confidence to experiment with before in matches," he said.

"I've learned a lot, I've picked up a lot of points and I'm going into the grass ready to really enjoy it and try and make the most of it."
