Zagreb might be cancelled too, because of overbooking the arena.

Sopot tends to attract a lot of fixers, so you can see why they're reluctant to give prize money out.

I would speculate that the "tough shit" rule will be invoked.
the tournament was moved up a month, would they deduct the points in August or July?

What if the tourney IS played and the defender wins it? would he have 2 Sopot titles on his points?

No events in Poland - this sucks
And we used to have a tier II and III WTA and ATP Sopot at one point :help:

That is a real shame for Polish tennis fans. I can't even begin to think how gutted I would be if all the tournaments I regularly went to were taken away from me. I really hope if this is true that Sopot comes back in 2009. Ive been there and it is a lovely town and a great intimate tournament. I also hope another tournament eventually crops up in Poland in the women's game.

I agree, it does suck if you are a Polish tennis fan.

They should make an ATP event in Poland's southern neighbor instead ;)

Prague is a beautiful city. That tournament is missed too. I'd love to see a post Wimbledon clay court schedule that included Prague, Sopot, Umag and Budapest. All four are great places for a tennis tournament. That would be a really great month of tennis. I love East Europe.

Think you'll find that's a yes, unless the system has changed.

The rankings are based on the last 52 weeks, regardless of which tournaments are held when.

Same kinda thing happened a couple of years back due to some date changes and some tournaments weren't played in identical weeks to the year before.
