My opinion on Clay court tennis is that it's great for the game especially leading upto Roland Garros but i feel there is to many all year round, i think some should be demoted to challengers as it gives an unfair advantage to your typical claycourter in terms of points and prize money.

I mean guys like Rusedski and Karlovic should start a campaign to have grass all year round like the clay tornys so they can climb the rankings because players such as Acasuso-Monaco-martin would come nowhere near the top 100 just my opinion what do you think???

Re: SHOULD SOME CLAY COURT TOURNAMENTS BE TAKEN FROM ATP SCHEDULE

The same could be said about hardcourt, both surfaces have a couple of mickey mouse tournaments. Just face it, most tennis is played on clay and hardcourt and there will always be players who climb the rankings by performing in those minor tournaments.

I think the ranking is actually quite fair nowadays with the best 5 optional tournaments counting besides the GS and AMS, preventing players from only playing in the smaller tournaments on their favorite surface.

Yes i think there are too many tounaments on clay which allows a player like Nadal to be higher than i think he should be.

The clay court events should be all put together on the calendar, not scattered around, it's stupid as the likes of Gaudio skip the indoor season and US hardcourt events just for more and more clay.
But your reply to Chloe proves you are a complete tosser and hopefully the mods will see sense and kick you out. Cheerio.

imo it wouldn't hurt to get rid of one clay or hard court tournament and add another grass or indoor tournament.

Get rid of some of the smaller hardcourt tournies. The fact that three of the GS's favours hardcourt players is a good enough reason to keep the clay tournies around points-wise IMO.

skel1983, I understand your point. The situation is that we face a reality: to construct a clay court and to maintain it in good state throughout the year, is cheaper than a grass court.
The ranking points system, as Cervantes says, in certain way tries to correct this "disadvantage" for the specialists in courts like grass.
And yes, It's truth that is difficult to prevail in tennis, being a grass specialist, but as well as there are more clay courts, also there are more specialists on clay, for that reason those that shine in clay also have a great merit.
;)

There are just as many hardcourt tournaments as clay - I don't see why they should scale down the clay. I remember the ATP promising to have the Masters end of year event on clay - but they never delivered.

But there's more than one season for hardcourts and indoor. There are 2 American hardcourt seasons, for example. There's also an early European indoor season and a late one.

Players are given their ranking on the combination of ATP tournaments they play plus the slams and Masters events. Therefore, it's ridiculous to say Nadal is ranked as high as he is because of clay solely - he did make the final in Miami. You may just as well say Fed/Roddick are ranked so high because they play so well on grass and it's not fair to those who can't.

I'd respond if this was actually somewhat intelligible.

Would you like me to translate it for you?

I fear that thou hast forsaken the opportunity to give my original musings due consideration, dear buxom Scandinavian. I felt it necessary to conduct a brief survey of opinion on the matter or whether there should be a decrease in the number of clay-court events held throughout the year, you foolish part of a lady's reproductive system. Blah Blah Blah...anger management issues...asterisk.

Yes we do. Something also needs to be done about the likes of Gaston Gaudio faking injury and then magically recovering in time for Gstaad, Bastad etc.
Although Scud turned down a French Open wildcard so he's just as bad.

:haha:

And to answer the question posed by the creator of the thread: yes. Get rid of ALL the clay events and instead build a court in which every square foot is comprised of a different surface. You could try experimenting with everything from granite to marble, linoleum, a bear rug, er, plastecene, fiberglass, banana skins, leather and perhaps a couple of dildos used as netposts to go with the female reproductive organ that you mentioned.

Re: SHOULD SOME CLAY COURT TOURNAMENTS BE TAKEN FROM ATP SCHEDULE

Maybe there should be more grass court tournaments between the French Open and Wimbledon for better preperation so the players who prefer clay can get used to the green stuff more.
