Great match from Goffin, very aggressive from the start to the end.

Tough conditions to play and Rafa seems to be a bit hampered by his thigh probably, hope it is nothing serious.

If they'd given Rafa one more day to prepare for this humidity, he'd have won this match.
Dry heat of Perth to this humidity so suddenly, for a guy that has a humidity problem, was always going to be a loss....

Great match David!!
Rafa was missing today but all credits to David.
Losing against the number 11 in the world is not a tragedy.

Smart tanking by Nadal. Who cares about ATP cup when there is AO soon, and even more importantly - it's the Olympic year.

Didn't expect this to come, but considering the fact that Rafa struggled against Nishioka in his previous match, this result is hardly surprising. Goffin is a former top 10 player after all. Rafa still seems rusty coming off the break. It will take him a couple of more matches to get 100% for the Aussie Open, where he will be one of the favorites for the crown along with Joker. Having said that, Goffin seems to have got off to a very good start and top ten is easily within his reach if he can matain the level he has been demonstrating in this tournament.

So does Rafaelito pretend he’s injured again? Oh well, I’ve almost forgotten he never loses when healthy... this is so pathetic.
Good job, David. On HC you are simply the better player than the clay specialist from Majorca.

seems like Goffin was in danger of choking but kept himself together nicely. he was really happy afterward, very emotional for such an introvert guy! huge victory for him
happy for him and his tards ;)

Welcome to the forum (but are you really a newcomer, I seem to recall your user-name from before).

I agree with everything you said, but perhaps your last (bolded) comment was overly cautious. Actually Goffin already has the same number of ranking points as number 10 (Batista Agut), and he will likely be top ten as soon as the points for the ATP cup have been awarded. Although Batista Agut has been succesful as well, he will likely get lesser points as compared to Goffin, as the Spaniard has been playing at the number two position for his country.
