GROUP B

JAPAN lost a key point with loosing double rubber vs. Georgia.

On scoreboard it looks shiny to get Best Second ranked Team with 2 ties won and 5/1 in rubbers but he has now to face Spain and need a major upset to avoid a 0/3 loss.
2 and 5/4 would blatantly be not enough to get one of Best 2nd.

GROUP A

SOUTH AFRICA has a clean win over Chile and can dream a little bit longer.

But it needs now another unlikely clean win over France to get direct qualification.

A 2/1 win would not be enough even for Best 2nd position.

FRANCE and Paire despite of a second set brainfart, won a key rubber which probably sealed a win over Serbia.
In this day of Bozic (Orthodox Christmas) Djokovic offered a key point (Best 2nd Team wise) to his team but SERBIA would have to stuggle nail and bites with CHILE to get a clean win which is unsafe considering small margin Lajovic and Serbian double have over their opponents.

That Group is likely to get A Best Second Team spot but then this Team would have to face Spain in QF with a probable exit.

CROATIA is now in a very good situation with 2 ties won and 5/1 rubber wise.

But next is Argentina where every rubber is very open.

Everything can happen in this group, even a come back from AUSTRIA who has to face Poland weakened with Majchrzak replacement.
But Austria would need a 3/0 win over Poland to secure Best Second Spot and expect an unlikely clean win from Argentina to get direct qualification.

* Group B case is trickier.

If Mahut ERV play better than Day 2 and defeat as favourite Djokovic Troicki ranking would be :

FRANCE ties 2 rubbers 4/2
SERBIA ties 1 rubbers 4/2
SOUTH AFRICA ties 1 rubbers 3/3

SERBIA can reach at best 2 rubbers 7/2 (provided a 3/0 win over Chile)

IMO France is likely to win 2/1 or loss 2/1 (depending Paire nerves).

If France can win 2/1 SERBIA is Best 2nd overall and would face SPAIN in QF.

If South Africa wins 2/1 Best possible Second would be ties 2 rubbers 5/4 and eliminated.

Group B (Edit) with the incredible Christmas gift Nole offered us on this Orthodox Christmas Day, Serbia is now 80% qualified and will avoid Spain in QF (or SF). Should play Best Second Ranked Team in QF.

EDITED RANKING

SERBIA ties 2 rubbers 5/1
FRANCE ties 1 rubbers 3/3
SOUTH AFRICA ties 1 rubbers 3/3

FRANCE and SOUTH AFRICA will play kind of Ro16 and only a 3/0 winner can qualify to face Spain.
