Pretty shocking result. First time the New Zealander doubles specialist has qualified for a MD far as I can tell.

Also, makes Tiafoe losing to Venus in a third set breaker even more impressive.

michael venus has a good game (have already take a set of robredo in 2011 ) , just have lack of consistency but if you like to see offensive player he has big game , big forehand , big serve and good volley skill ... really got talent for me
and on big point he always try to make big offensive play

HOpe he will win 1 or 2 round in the main draw ....

Venus is one of those doubles players who actually could have a decent career in Challengers if he focused on singles, but is Top 100 in doubles. Santiago Gonzalez is another clear example.

Rajeev Ram might be going that way too though :spit: His singles game is nowhere to be found.

Agree. Robert Farah is another one. Could have been a solid top 75-100 singles player. Same with Cabal.

He's not a dubs specialist, has played way more singles matches than doubles.
He is a doubles specialist, or at least he has made doubles his priority (from what I can deduce). He appears to base his schedule around what is best for his doubles, and play singles there also when he makes the cut (often qualifying).
