I have a feeling the modern tennis game would be more interesting if the court wasn't so wide. When tennis was invented, the racket technology didn't allow players to hit so many outright fast-paced winners from the baseline and the game had more of a strategic/chess-like element to it. It wouldn't cost that much to change the dimensions of tennis courts...just paint new lines. What does everyone else think?

It's a delicate issue. If you enshorten the width, you're disrespecting athetes, road-runners and even servers, and helping ballbashers to its game. If you enshorten the length, you're eliminating the drop shotand forcing the practice of serve & volley. I don't think it's a very good idea at all...

I think it should be halved, and doubled in length. That way there will be great touch and skill involved in the game.

simple solution mate:cool:
~~ restrict the size of rackets [head width & length];)
make rackets the same size as squash ones [half the size of some modern tennis rackets] & players will have a much harder time hitting clear winners from the baseline:devil:
...in the short term Federer would dominate even more, because he could find the sweet spot even on a one iron:devil: .. long term the game would be much more interesting & you`d see a return to 1960s-70s style of play:cool:

They're having it way too easy, make the court smaller AND the net higher. And play with flat balls maybe. Why? Well, why not?
If it's too easy, make the court larger and the net higher, correct?

Just like I said in the evolution thread--torched balls to simulate a DragonBall type effect (and/or Mario tennis) :p
Fantastic idea. Also, instead of a final set tie break they should have a final set gladiatorial battle. Release the lions and give the players swords, then we will see who really has balls.

I agree, bring back the Roman games as final set tiebreaker. Now that would be interesting! Maybe Roger can do bullfighting.
