Welcome to the Appeals Moderator thread. This is where I propose to report on how the position is evolving and answer any queries about my performance. I will also provide regular statistical information, and give notice of any times when I am unavailable e.g. holidays. Your feedback will be welcomed.

Total number of warnings/infractions issued: 203

Appeals considered: 23
Appeals supported: 12
Appeals successful : 7
Appeals not yet determined : 0

Please note that the thread must not be used by members to appeal publicly, or to complain or ask questions about specific appeals. Also it is not intended as a substitute for the "Ask the Mods" thread, or any other system already in place. Any inappropriate posts will be deleted and the thread may be closed if misused

I am not able to appeal the permaban on behalf of any poster who has been permabanned in the past. My appointment has no retrospective effect.

I have a question: Is it possible to tell us what kind of appeal was successful? I see you have made 1 successful appeal, so maybe could you tell if it was a ban or infraction?

The appeal was against a one month ban. A moderator accepted my argument that an infraction for baiting was appropriate and sufficient.
I do not feel able to disclose the name of the poster or the nature of the offence.

Next time I would appreciate a full explanation for the reason why you rejected my appeal, rather than a reply from Snowwyy saying "The appeal moderator feels your appeal has no merit".

That will happen, I am sure. The only reason it didn't is because we were just starting and we weren't completely ready with the email addresses.

Totally fine. Just think it would be good in the future for users to know the full details :yeah:.

As Snowwy said, the system and procedures are new and being refined on a daily basis.
I did not, in fact, find no merit in your appeal, and I considered it carefully.
However I found insufficient merit for me to be able to support it, which is a different matter.
Specifically I concluded that reposting a deleted post was equivalent to editing over a moderator's changes, and thus decided against you.

Lines 2,3 and 4 are not intended to be added together!

To expand everything:-
Appeals supported 5 therefore appeals not supported 3 ------ 3+5=8
Appeals successful 2 therefore appeals unsuccessful 3 ------ 2+3=5

I will now update the figures

I have decided to add a further statistic to my first post, giving the total number of infractions/warnings issued.
This will make it obvious that the vast majority of posters accept when they have broken the rules, and only a small minority of cases need to be brought to my attention.

I have one question - this position being new, does it consider appeals for infractions/bans issued after the date of your initiation, or it is possible to appeal a 1 year length infraction given 6 months ago?

All appeals have to be made within 7 days of the infraction, and cases dating from before my appointment cannot be considered.
Sorry.

For the benefit of anyone who checks this thread regularly, and because of the considerable "public interest" in this case, I would like to confirm that I have received the appeal of topspindoctor and will be considering it over the next 24 hours or so.

PLEASE do not make my job any more difficult by commenting in this thread, but feel free to PM me if you have anything relevant to contribute.

Wow. You have a 66/67% success rating right now. Good job. I guess if the person isn't a troll, you can easily help them out. Glad to see I have a successful chance to overturn a ban, (should I get one) and feel it is unjust.
