It really wasn't all that what OP is talking about.

Good for Cilic to get the win, but he was on a pretty firm path of self-destruction until Paire donated the 4th set opening service game and subsequently gifted the set.

Missed opportunity for Paire, who got better with tight matches but is still losing final set tiebreaks which cost him the title last week, and a third round this week.

The major difference is that GS 5th set tiebreakers are a horrible Concept and in this case felt to me like a saving grace for the Croat. Perhaps had it gone 2-4 more games he’d had finished the self imploding job.

I love Cilic so much but the boy is such a mental midget. I don't know what happened to him. He used to be such a sensation in 2014 but then the last two-three years, he is just collapses.
