There is some really good news coming for tennis fans. The 2021 Australian Open will most probably start from its due date, that too after conducting the qualifiers. However, they will not take place in Australia.

It is likely that the qualifiers will take place in Dubai or Doha in the first two weeks of January 2021. As per reports, they are likely to start from January 4. It is after this that the qualified players can travel to Australia and undergo a 14-day quarantine before the beginning of the main tournament.

After this, only 32 qualified players, 16 men, and 16 women will travel from Dubai or Doha to Australia. With the players already in Australia, The WTA is also planning to hold two tournaments in Australia straight after the Slam.

Of course is a good thing allow this players to qualify for the MD so this is better that nothing. But they will need to flight to Middle east from their home countries , play qualy and then another flight to Australia and the two weeks of quarantine.

I'm afraid % of players from qualy who will lose on 1R will be much more high than normally, they lost the advantage of having more match competition on their bags because the quarantine and the matches they will play will be on another courts and even different weather.

What a ridiculous thing to have qualifying in a completely different part of the world, a very selfish move by the Aussies. Either have the tournament as normal, or don't have it at all. Almost as embarrassing as the Americans having the US Open with no qualies.
