I'm surprised that, until now, no one had started a cheering thread for Antonio. He's from the island of Losinj, plays right-handed and recently turned 20 years old (born in February 1988). He had a fairly unremarkable junior career but seems to be coming into his own now that he's on the pro tour. He has been moving up nicely in the rankings:

End of 2005: Unranked
End of 2006: 850
End of 2007: 455

This week--April 21, 2008--he reached a new career-high ranking of 403. Also, he's playing the $15K in Italy this week and has reached the SF. That means he'll break into the top 400, with a new career-high ranking somewhere in the 380s at least.

Let's wish Antonio best of luck on the pro tour!

Excellent result for Antonio. This is his second Futures final in a row. He'll move to around 370 if he loses in the final and to around 350 if he wins.

Good luck, Antonio!

Antonio won the tournament! He beat Vagnozzi, the 6th seed. He won the first set 6-2, then wasted six(!) set points and lost the second set 6-7(4) but recovered to win the third 6-3.

Antonio is now 9-1 in his last ten matches. He will reach a new career-high ranking of around 350. Just last week, he was ranked 449 so that'll be a jump of around 100 places in just two tournaments!

He seems destined for very good things. Could Veic become the newest Croatian tennis star? Stay tuned...

The WTA does the same thing for women's tournaments of $25,000 and less. My guess is that the ATP and WTA can't rely on every small ITF tournament (some of which are probably pretty disorganized) to submit their results promptly by Sunday evening, in time for the weekly rankings to be processed and published early on Monday.

Antonio has beaten Kavčić in the first round of this week's Zagreb challenger, 76(2) 60. That's a good win for him. Next he has a very tough second-round match against the winner of Gremelmayer (#1 seed) and Bozoljac. Still, Antonio has already picked up nine points this week which will help his ranking nicely.

Antonio beat Gremelmeyer, the top seed, 76 10 (ret). He now has 14 ranking points, which means he'll reach a new career-high ranking of around 320 next week. He's moving up the rankings very quickly!!!

Wow cool :D

I finally saw him play against Riba. Doesn't have a typical Croatian game, likes long rallies, and pretty often wins them. He still lacks experience and that's why he lost. He obviously isn't a future top10 player, but if he improves a bit more he could reach top100.

Good win for Antonio today at Kosice challenger. In the first round, he beat Lukas Lacko (#3 seed, #164 in the world) 60 40 ret. There was probably something wrong with Lacko, since he didn't win a single game. Still, a win is a win.

In the next round, Antonio plays a qualifier, Guillermo Olaso. This is an excellent opportunity for Antonio to get to the QFs of a challenger tournament.

Good luck, Antonio!

Antonio is in the QFs of the challenger in Poland this week! In the first round he beat Rusevski easily, 63 60. In the second round he upset the #8 seed, Montcourt, in straight sets, 61 76.

With that result, Antonio will break into the top 300. Right now he's #313 but will go up to around 285-290.

Antonio is still young. He turned 20 four months ago. It's looking more and more to me like he could become a top 100 player!

Go, Antonio. Good luck!

Antonio is playing impressively. He won again today, beating the #4 seed, Greul, easily, 63 64. In the semis he'll play Santos-Gonzalez. Antonio is ranked a little bit higher, so while it might not be easy, he has a good chance to make it into the final.

This is easily Antonio's best career result. In next week's rankings, he'll move well into the top 300, at around 270 (if he loses tomorrow).

Best of luck to Antonio, and congratulations so far.

Antonio has a new career-high ranking this week: #271. That's very impressive considering he started the year at #455. He's moving up fast!

He will play against Montcourt in the first round in Umag. They have played twice this year, both won one match but Antonio won the last one 6-1 7-6. Hopefully he can repeat it.
