Anti-war rallies, the Body Politic, and other Shite

possibly more than a hundred thousand anti-war protesters gathered together today in Washington D.C. to try and force some sense down the throat of a certain idiot. hope he gets the message, though I am sure he won't. I watched quite a bit of it on C-Span today and also listened to Laura Flanders' live broadcast from the gathering on Air America Radio. Some of the stories that were told by people who had lost loved ones to the illegal war brought me to tears. I hope that this will help keep this travesty in the consciousness of every body on MTF and across the globe

PEACE

Sorry Blowe, MTF is now overrun by youngsters who couldn't find their own country on a map, never mind Iraq. Intelligent thread-starters are no longer welcome.
Even Jorge and undiomele seem to have given up.

they can march all they want, its not going to change anything unfortunately

So sad but so true.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

The hurricane unfortunately distracted attention from this event. :(

I too am becoming increasingly skeptical of how much good these protests can do, but one can at least go down trying. :yeah:

The force is growing. A year ago, you won't even hear anything about anti-war protesting. More and more people are fed up with this war. Those supporting the war thinking US can actually get in and out of Iraq quickly with minimal casualty finally figured out this will never be the case for any war. They thought it's just like the Gulf war which is a totally different scenario.

The sunday following the massive rally of over 100,000 people, a group of...ahem... 400 gathered today in support of the war, saying that opposing the war is to oppose our troops, and calling Cindy Sheehan a traitor.
While I will say that there are traitor's in our midst, it certainly isn't Cindy Sheehan. 100,000 vs. 400, I'm not very good at math but...
They did not have to give up their Sunday. They voted in the last elections.

well,i think these anti - war protesters are still a way far from getting a satisfying response from the american governoment ,specially when these protesting features don't go beyond quiet actions, like rallies ,or even sitting infront of the white house for some days, the only positive thing about it i think, is the growing number of americans refusing what's happening in Iraq, after those losses and crazy destruction going there.
It's a good rally , if it's just a beginning for further steps. if these protesters really believe in refusing that war , time 'll show, they 'll have to think over for more -practically felt -decisions to make it come true. cuz as far as it is seen right now, ppl. taking decisions in the current american governoment, is refusing to see what's crystal clear on either sides; internally and everywhere outside the US..

Depends on the scale. I have a feeling if everyone in the US was protesting, those Congressmen and women, fearing their positions could be lost, would get off their asses and do something.

I really wish this will happen KBF.

Meanwhile, I am more inclined to MisterQ's post.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

The protestors aren't even getting a response from the potential 2008 Democratic presidential nominees (the ones with a serious chance of actually nominated, not Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton). Did any of them show up and give speeches today or march with the crowd? How do you think the Bush Adminstration reads that?
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

Democrats are Bush puppets :fiery:

Except Nancy Pelosi :hearts:

Draft Nancy!

the bush adminstration has other things on their mind right now, which is why I greet the 2006 elections with optimism. Whether or not in 2008 its President Guiliani or President Frist or President Corporate Lapdog, at least many of the congressional seats will (hopefully) be taken by either Dems or Indepents, blunting much of the next administration's power. The fact that a moderate will be running as the Dem's pres. nominee is a given, and as long as that is the case, they will alienate much of their base, and likely lose the presidential election.
If Guiliani wins I will leave. He was a shit mayor and would be a shit president. The guy has done NOTHING but buy his position as mayor. He has horribly won his clout only for being mayor during a national tradegy, where he proceeded to break the law by suspending the mayoral elections so that he could keep his seat and further his standing in the country. Boo.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

I'd prefer they do that with McCain. McCain I can stand.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

Indeed. If he won I wouldn't cry.

I didn't get out of bed for an entire day the second time Bush won. The first time I thought, well, everyone makes mistakes. The second time I just couldn't stomach that they would make the same mistake twice.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

Blowe all the lib papers did their own investigation and found that Bush won in 2000 so get over it. No moderate will win on the GOP side because they won't survive the primaries the same with the Dems. Tancredo is the dose of medicine this country needs and I hope he runs.
Re: Thousands of anti-war protesters rally in Washington D.C. today

Blowe you are exactly why the demoncats are in so much trouble. Keep it up. You, Moveontocommunism.org and the Hollywood idiots are all fodder for us red-staters :)

No, I'm implying that they lost.
