A new series of advertisements on Washington, DC buses calling for an end to US aid to Islamic countries have raised concerns of 'anti-Muslim' sentiment. Sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), the nearly five-metre long ads feature a 1941 photo of Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler with Haj Amin al-Husseini, a Palestinian community leader who later served as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. The advertisements are scheduled to appear on 20 city buses through June.

Disgusting from the Amurikans and their anti-Muslim lobby.

Soo damn stupid. Not only is this advertisement allowed, but it is being allowed in Washington D.C.

Also the bus company should be blamed here not "amurikans"

Free speech is free speech. Clearly the bus company decided that there was nothing illegal in the ad that would cause legal problems. In fact, the bus company would probably face legal problems if it did NOT accept the ad.

You do not have to agree with it. You have the right to be offended, if you decide to be. But if you like free speech, then this no more than that.

Anti-Israel ads are considered no big deal: this is no different.

Consider if the most anti semitic verses of the Koran were put on the sides of buses. Would that be OK?

If there is any difference between the sentiments shown in this ad and an ad calling for a boycott of Israel, I would like to know what it is.

When Scarlet Johansson did an ad for Sodastream, a great product by the way, OXFAM said thanks for all the work you have done in the past, but now you are a bad person, go away, we do not want your help. Frankly I think OXFAM a lot more disgusting than the people who put up this ad.

If you do not like the sentiments of the ad, just ignore it, as I do when I see Christian ads that hint that I will burn in hell.

The ad was directed at Islamic theocracies, not Muslims in general. Abraxas seems to think the American government put up the bus ad.
I think you are putting a very soft spin on the ad itself. I got the impression it was distinctly anti-Muslim in general. So, the ad itself is clearly offensive (even if I think it's so out there it's actually hilarious rather than dangerous).

Having said that, OP's reaction to it is just as childish.

The problem is that bus is a public transportation bus (read: goverment agency), not a private company.

Even if the sentiment of the ad is okay, the language and imagery is inflammatory, and WMATA would be wise to avoid it.

If they refused that ad, they would have to stop all ads, otherwise face a law suit for discrimination.

We went through something similar in Toronto when we ran the "Extraordinary Claims Need Extraordinary Proofs" campaign on public buses. The ads showed Jesus, Muhammad and something about Creationism and homeopathy, I think - and at the bottom said "There is probably no god. Enjoy the rest of your day".

There were a few murmurs but there was no way the bus company could refuse them.

That changes it. Still don't personally think it should be censored but legally, Muslim groups might have a claim here.
I suspect it is the other way around. A private company could reject ads it does not want, but a publicly-owned company can not discriminate.

But probably some people will throw a few stones at the buses and the ads will be removed in the interest of public safety.

This is the same tactic used by Muslims in Toronto's universities when they want to get a speaker cancelled. They threaten violence. Works every time, because the university administrations are very PC.
However, anti-Israel speakers have no problem speaking, because the threat of violence is never made.

if i want to advertise how huge my dick is, with a picture of it full size, would they allow it for the sake of freedom of speech and no discrimination?

Of course they wouldn't (bus too small first of all..). There must be rules and in these rules there must be lines saying smth about religion discrimination, race, inciting anykind of discrimination, violence, etc., etc.

So please...

To add to that, they are going to argue it's hate speech. I don't think it is, but once that notion gets thrown around, the cost of having the ads aren't worth the fight.

WMATA could not refuse the ad on the basis of its content. Once the group that made the ad bought the ad space there was nothing WMATA could do about the actual contents of the ad. They have previously tried to reject the content of an ad purchased by the same group I believe, but a federal judge said it would be a violation of the First Amendment.

Obviously that ad did not contravene any laws

It calls for no more US aid to Islamic countries.

And even though not many people would see your dick unless they were actually hit by the bus, maybe, there are laws against pornography, public nudity etc.

All you have said is "there must be this, there must be that.......", without knowing what there actually is.
