I can't understand the manner of the Kremlin C. managment. Lindsay - a former No. 1 - is an enrichment for every tournament, she is very popular, a marvellous female tennis player and a guarantor for a lot of viewers. They should be glad that Lindsay wants to play this tournament - if not, they don´t deserve her

And that explains. That couldn't be any other way - if Lindsay would be given a WC, Anna wouldn't get in because she is not next in line for MD.. So they gambled for someone withdrawing ( or perhaps they even knew that ) and it worked. Now, lets forget about it..;)

Press-release

Dear colleagues and friends,
Welcome to the official drawing ceremony of the 13th International Kremlin Cup Tennis Tournament.
It is for the third time running that ATP and Sanex WTA Tour Tournaments are being held simultaneously in the Olympic Stadium. The two main draws of both tournaments look very impressive. It is sufficient to say that "Ladies Kremlin Cup" list is terminated by the 33d number of the world ranking. The men's list is ended by the 44th ATP number. Among the key stars that came to Moscow are Venus Williams, Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport and Meghann Shaughnessy (USA), the defending Kremlin Cup - 2001 singles champion Elena Dokic (Jugoslavia), Martina Hingis (Switzerland), Amelie Mauresmo (France): Four our players - Elena Dementieva, Anastasiya Myskina, Tatyana Panova and Nadejda Petrova - entered the main draw directly. Two more talented Russians - Elena Bovina and Dinara Safina - got the "wild cards" from the organizers. According to the joint decision of the organizers and Sanex WTA Tour representatives the third invitation was granted to Anna Kournikova.
