Tennis star Andy Murray has been awarded the freedom of Stirling in a visit to the area in which he grew up.

The 26-year-old Wimbledon champion broke down in tears as he became a freeman of the city at a special meeting of Stirling Council in Dunblane High School.

He said: "Everyone knows how proud I am of where I come from..to get this honour means a lot.''

Re: Andy Humbleray in tears as he recieves the freedom of Stirling award

Murray's Wimbledon win was the worst thing that could have happened to him. Killed whatever little ambition he might have had relative to the other top players, gave him a taste of being a celebrity in his country like never before and now all he wants to do is promote tennis instead of actually playing it.

It was also the worst thing that could have happened to tennis. A weaponless pusher has no buisness winning a slam, let alone wimbledon. A real tragedy.
