Players around this ranking are fighting for that coveted #105 mark which guarantees them direct entry into next year's Australian Open. One player desperately trying for that mark is the finally recovered Andreas Vinciguerra. At one point (only a few weeks ago), Vinciguerra was at a dismal 1-18 record on the year! Ick! But a late surge has saved him from a Vince Spadea award. He won early in the year, defeating Federico Luzzi at the Australian Open but from there, he lost 14 in a row and dipped all the way to #121 with his biggest points yet to fall. He had to qualify for his home nation tournament, Stockholm (guess they wouldn't even give him a wild card :) ) and went all the way to the quarterfinals, defeating the afore mentioned Karol Beck and Guillermo Canas before losing to Marcelo Rios in the quarters. He lost in the second round in Aachen two weeks ago and now last week in Bratislava, he reached the semifinals. He still has an awful record on the year but it is much better than it was a few weeks ago (10-20). This week, Vinciguerra who had dropped all the way #217 in spite of his recent success, had climbed back into the top 200, 29 spots to #188.
