24 now. Resurfaces and reaches second round US Open then loses a very winnable match to Sal Caruso. 181 in the rankings now. Big hitter but so far very minimal success in ATP. Physically the game is there, mental...is that the weaker point?

My most memorable Escobedo match was when he choked vs defending champ Steve Johnson 1R in Houston. Esco was up a set and about to finish it but didn't. Then at 5-5 in the second set tiebreaker he DFed and that was it. He lost in three. Johnson survived Esco and went on to defend title vs Sandgren. In this interview Escobedo said he lost 13 straight games after being up 5-1 40-15. So maybe there is a lack of killer instinct to finish matches or a lack of mental fortitude?

Coached by Peter Lucassen now. Can Escobedo get his act together and fulfill potential as a future American stalwart?

His first serve is great, also his forehand can blast winners, but in my opinion he relies too much on his first serve. When he has to play his second serve and is forced to use his backhand more, he gets exposed.

He was a true joy to watch back in 2016.

He started to work with Jan-Michael Gambill last year and it surely helped him alot. It was awful few years before that.

Should bounce back to top 100 sooner or later.

Gambill sure does get positive results with each player who he unites with. Coco Vandy though did not do so great with him. Is Donaldson finished with that bum knee?
