Yes, I remember famous Amos he was a very short fiesty guy, but quite a crafty player. He was ranked around 20s and 30s, before injuries got the better of him.

From what I've heard of him, he was a solid performer- his serve wasn't huge but very accurate, and his backhand was pretty useful (singlehanded).

His best grand slam result was a quarterfinal appearance in the Australian Open in 1992 where he lost to Jim Courier.

I saw him play several times. He won the Paris indoors, which I think was his best result. Also, made it into the QFs in the Aussie Open at least once. I believe he was coaching Fed Cup a few years ago, when Israel actually had a few women players to send to Fed Cup.

Wow, he was shorter than I thought!

IIRC, Amos suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome/Epstein-Barr virus toward the end of his career.

:haha: thanks for this thread; i just had a brief roommate who was israeli and said amos was INCREDIBLY famous...in israel. A true national hero. he knew i had many matches from 1969 on and couldnt figure out why i didnt have a collection of amos mansdorf. i said, 'well, i can tell you he never made a grand slam final, so if you're telling me he's an all-time great, i don't know what to tell you.'

but now i see he made the QF at the aussie...at least once. go amos!
