Clavet calls it quits
Spain's Francisco Clavet, who was humbled by Brazilian newcomer Ricardo Mello at the Mexican Open on Monday, will retire this season after 15 years on the professional circuit.
Clavet, who won in Mexico in 1997, said his swansong would be at the Challenger tournament in Madrid in August.
"It's sad to leave a career in the sport, which has filled my life during so many years," he announced. "It's made me very sad, but the time has come to look for new targets.
"I've always enjoyed it, in spite of the tension, because it's what I most enjoy doing," added the left-hander, who won the first of his eight titles in Hilversum in 1990 and the last in Scottsdale in 2001.
