Looking at that entry list, it's definitely Djokovic's tournament to lose. His biggest obstacle might be the weather; at that time of year Adelaide is considerably more prone to prolonged stretches in the high 30s/low 40s than Melbourne is.

Edit: In fact, having just had a look at the corresponding week this year (Jan 12-18) Adelaide had four straight days over 39 degrees.

Yeah with only de Minaur Australian direct entry the WCs will go right down the Aussie list i'm guessing

Kyrgios (...?)
Millman (playing Auckland)
Thompson (probably in directly)
Popyrin
Duckworth

O'Connell
Polmans

...I'm going with the assumption that the Tomic/Kokkinakis WC train has finally stopped but Australia is weird...

So I'd say Popyrin and Duckworth are WC for sure and the third TBD

Who else thinks there is a pretty good chance Djokovic will either withdraw (if Australia goes in QF or better in ATP Cup), or just walkover after 1 or 2 matches in Adelaide ?

Why aren't these entry lists posted in the "Upcoming Tournaments" forum like they were prior to the site upgrade? I would think it would be easier to find them there rather than in General Message.

Thanks,

The tournament hasn’t really announced or promoted that Djokovic will play so I think it’s probably a back up thing.
Also, why is Millman playing Auckland? Must have had a fight with TA

Still quite surprised Djokovic is playing, though I guess he wants the best chance to retake #1 in March and Nadal is likely to win the ATP Cup given Spain's strong supporting cast.

In theory I do agree with you, but from my experience last year, they didn't get much attention outside of withdrawal announcements.. there wasn't much speculation or discussion pre-tournament and that seems to be taking place more here in general discussion - so for now, I don't mind them being here. 🤷‍♂️

Djokovic's withdrawal has been announced on Saturday, with no reason given by organisers of the tournament.

"We know how disappointed Novak is about not being able to play in Adelaide this year and we hope to welcome him to the tournament next year," Adelaide International Tournament Director Alistair MacDonald said.

Would have been very surprised if he played after these two intense 3 setters back to back in the ATP Cup. Would make no sense to play next week, not sure why he planned to enter the Adelaide tournament in the first place, maybe thought Serbia would be eliminated earlier.
