Jérôme Haehnel didn't receive a WC in Metz (his native region...) as he was 96 when the draw was made, as Ascione (95) and Philipoussis (203) both received one... should have been a minimum to invite the 2004 winner IMO...
Do you know a tournament where it happened before ?

Ridiculous, in his home country even...
What's up with giving Phillippoussis wild cards all the time anyway?

Did he ask for a WC?
He's playing the Mons challenger, maybe he didn't want to play in Metz for some reason we don't know.
Or did he say in an interview they didn't want to give him a WC?

Maybe he didnt want to play. But I cant see why he wouldnt want to defend his title!
If he did ask for one and Flip got it instead, that is a disgrace :fiery:

Yes he asked a WC one month ago and organisers said there were other French players ahead of him, and they picked up Ascione as the latest WC, who happened to be 1 rank above him... stupid organisers !

You're right, mdhubert, I've found an article where he says he's very disappointed and he entered the Mons challenger only as a precaution.
http://fr.sports.yahoo.com/02102005/26/tennis-sept-francais-metz-mais-pas-jerome-haehnel.html:

(As usual, I can't translate it, sorry.)

This is a really big slap in the face to Jerome. Maybe the French Federation is punishing him for not flying to other tournaments or something.

;) Sorry if I make a few mistakes...

"I have been left out...I don't understand" declared Jerome Haehnel at Reuters on Saturday. "Six weeks ago I called Yvon Gérard, the tournament director, to find out if I had a chance to obtain one of the four wildcards. I sensed from his reply that it would be very tough (to get one). As a precaution, I signed myself up for the Mons challenger, in Belgium. "On Thursday I called back the organisers and I was given confirmation that Thierry Ascione was before me on the list of appearances for the tournament by the Federation. I have nothing against Thierry, woh is a friend of mine, but I find this decision to be a little harsh. Last year, this had been a great time for me (?) and I really had hoped to return to Metz.

Hope this helps :bigwave:

It is a bit harsh that he hasn't been given the chance to defend his title, BUT, maybe the Federation is also doing him a favour. He has had a horrible year results-wise and he was unlikely to mount much of a challenge this week so he might end up defending more of his points in the Challenger.

You never know what he'd have done, last year he wasn't on a winning streak either... there is truth in what you say... but remember Goran... and he wasn't the title holder !

I heard he himself refused to be offered a WC when i knew he hadn't and wanted to know how come since i thought that was stupid but now with the articles you posted...:fiery:
 No scoreboard on their site, and now this?
Julien Boutter spends more time being in restaurants and socializing as a co-organisator of the tournament than occupying of such matters correctly it seems... (really i don't know what he does actually but this is becoming a joke...It's really disappointing. ).
