A plea to Andy Roddick.....

In the last few years Andy has had 3 coaches, all with very good reputations. I can't understand how he has so many blatant weaknesses, yet there has been no improvement in them. Therefore, I plead with you to employ me as your coach and we will work on the following things, enabling you to beat Federer every so often and win another Grand Slam in your career, as its not looking likely at the moment.

1. We will concentrate on the backhand. Although there have been slight improvements in the last few years, it is still a massive weakness during the course of a rally. Also, you are slightly better at passing shots on it than you were a couple of years ago (as Rusedski and Sampras exploited), but you are still not strong enough.

2. We will then focus on flattening out the forehand. Every forehand you hit at the moment is loaded with topspin, which means you are hitting very few winners. We need to develop a flat forehand.

3. Volleying. We will ditch the Babolat Pure Drive you have at the moment, as it simply isn't good for volleying. You will not venture to the net against the likes of Hewitt and Federer until we are confident enough in your ability to deal with relatively easy volleys.

4. We will work on the returns. At the moment, you either don't make a return or if you do, its a lame ball down the centre of the court which is easy to putaway. We will hire Andre when he shortly retires to help you out in this department. We will certainly get more aggressive off a 2nd serve.

5. We will make sure you don't stand 5 feet behind the baseline during a rally.

6. We will work on your movement, and maybe lose a bit of weight.

7. Although I appreciate that you're a good sportsman, we are going to get nasty out there. No more applauding every time your opponent hits a good shot (although I'll let you do it occasionally as its nice to see).

8. We're going to go back to the old Andy, where you were constantly pumped up and fighting for every ball. We're going to be charismatic and exciting.

Thank you for your time Andy. If any other MTFers wish to throw in their opinion they may do so, and we'll take it on board :p

Yeah, but when I have mine (not literally) I'll have to concentrate on him :D he's going to be number 1 :aparty:

Ok, until you have yours. A lot of your points to Andy apply to my son, speciafically #6 and #7. He shifted to a single-handed backhand because of a recurrent left wrist problem (he was going to do it anyway in a year or so). It is developing nicely but still not a weapon.

6+7 aren't too big problems, and they're the easiest to solve! As for switching to a single-handed backhand....Excellent decision! It'll take time, but it'll be good in the long run.
:haha:

Can I help with this one? I've spent most of my life on the dance floor and know lots of cool footwork drills (most of which are a lot more fun and useful than anything most tennis coaches can come up with). I can cook too...although that's probably the opposite of what you're looking for. ;)

All help is appreciated :D

As for the cooking, you can cook lots of nice things for Andy's new coach. Only healthy food for Andy himself though :p

Yeah...so that when Andy loses, I'll help him drown his sorrows.

For what it's worth, I'm still stunned by yesterday.
:haha:
andy would never be able to learn all that. its just too much for him.
but if you could, then you would be one hell of a coach.
props to you for the post though.quality :yeah:
Marlo & Sue, missed you girls. I have a problem with MTF, whenever I try to quote my pc jams. Will PM you both with my summer quips.

Marlo, Mostafa is all yours for the movement tips. ;)

:worship: And I am sorry that he lost. Are you still going to the USO?
One more thing I forgot to mention.....

9. We're going to ditch the American cronies you hang around with and begin to mix with the youthful Spanish lads, like Rafa and Nando. They can teach you how to construct a point on clay as well.

:yeah:
:haha: No offense, adee-gee, but if a professional tennis player starts taking coaching advice from folks who post on the Internet, it's time for him to put on a suit and have a seat next to Cliffie and Pat behind the microphone!
Out of these, the most ridiculous one is ditching the racquet. But some others are pretty funny too.

I never understand these types of comment.

So coaches never use the Internet?
Anybody who uses the internet can't be a professional, or simply someone who knows what they're talking about?

Think! :smash:
