That stat is clay inflated. Nadal is the best returner on clay by a mile, and yes maybe even better than Djokovic. But his return is nowhere near as good in other surfaces.

Gaston's numbers are much more clay inflated, however. He played 17 sets on clay, and 2 sets on HC.

I think his baseline game is objectively still the best in the game. The return is behind several players in terms of that being the key component in him winning the point. His serve and net game have also improved, as well as his use of the slice and flat backhand crosscourt (although this was mia in the indoor season).The movement is a far cry from his peak, but he is compensating very well. A large amount of credit goes to Moya.
