Congrats to Rafa fans, stupendous performance by the King of Clay. Is this guy even human, is he aging backwards? I thought he would win in maybe 4 well contested sets but that was a blowout. Commiserations to Djokovic fans, your hero is still favorite for next year's AO.

wow Djokovic played the match of his life in the semi against Stefanos and yesterday he could barely hit the ball inside the court

But congrats to Nadal, the level he played in the 1. and 2. set was almost as good as Saschas level in the first two sets in the US Open final :)

Slam #20 in a glorious display of GOATness.

34-year old Nadal somehow summoning peak form, or a form previously never even considered, to destroy the 37-0 #1 Djokovic to the tune of 6-0 6-2 7-5.

These are things you normally don't witness in a lifetime, and we are lucky enough to be tennis fans to be watchers of the sport where one man, the greatest of them all; is capable of such level.

Djokovic played aggressively great, and was forced to literally clobber line after line and perfectly dead drop shots to get the few games he got, against an opponent capable of perfection offense and defense:

completely ownership of baseline strokes, returns, attack and spin/whip (FH DTL, FH's into a corner, off-FH's run-around, BH's CC, heavy BH counters, etc.), consistent depth, angles to pull the other wide, on the run / stretch defense (repeated retrieval of hard-hitting penetrating shots, sliding at max), changes of pace/spin/height, uncomfortable slices, lobs, volleys (BH volley/stop at 5-2 2S), drop shots.

3 UE's through 2 sets in what was the hardest and fastest hit match of the tournament, a grand slam final against peak Djokovic.

3 UEs through 100 points of the highest level / pace, with Djokovic hitting as hard as he can.

He wasn't even allowing FE's, he made Djokovic hit several winner-esque shots.

Becker explaining the events of the match:

"Nadal playing in a different world, that only he knows" -Becker 2S 15-30

"Extremely risky played this forehand, but it's because of Nadal, he gets to every ball and plays it back with much topspin -- he's at the limit(Djokovic)" -Becker, 2S

„If you hadn’t seen these first games you’d think Djokovic is injured or not trying, no no, it’s because of Nadal. Just thought if I’ve ever seen him this good… against Djokovic, phenomenal“ -Becker, 2S 4-1

„Boris, Djokovic cannot play better, it’s not possible!“ Stach, 3S 2-1 30-30. Becker agrees.

„I have never seen Djokovic have to run such long paths on a tennis court“ Becker, 3S 1-2 15-30

„Dear Tennis friends, I’m just gonna say this, we are seing one of the best Roland Garros finals of all time, by level“ -Stach
„Absolutely“ -Becker
„And down left, I cannot believe what it says, but it stands there (scoreline)“ -Stach

63% of points won by Djokovic were winners.

25/28 W/UE 2nd set ratio by Djokovic against a peak UE-less Nadal asking for only the hardest and deepest of shots to be hit, and people think Djokovic was subpar or not at peak form. Crazy how ignorant people can be.

Only Djokovic's serve peaking denied a 6-0 6-2 6-4 line.

Rafa was determined to teach Novak a brutal lesson and he did it perfectly. Rafa you were out of this world!

If you think winning slam without dropping set at age of 34 is impressive, look no further than Wimbledon 2017. Federer was almost 36 when he won it without dropping set. Now THAT is impressive!
Impressive for sure. Might have been a different story if he had to face Djokovic in the final though!

That made my day, it has been a while since I laughed this loudly. Cheers, mate.

Shaughnessy left because of Ivanisevic and, without his statistical analyses, Jelena, Ivanisevic and Vajda are not of much use when figuring out the tactics. On the other hand, I'm sure Jelena's half-covered face is a welcome beacon of positivity in the box, Munk-like.
From what I know, he was the ‘strategy coach’ using his patented ‘brain game’ method for various players, instructors & the like. IINM, he came on board sometime in 2018 while Vajda has been w/ Novak almost entirely since 2006 so i’m quite sure Vajda knows a thing or two about ‘tactics’. Anyway, it sure seems like the weak link here could b Goran as Novak’s serving among other weapons was quite ineffective. Seems like Moya & co. did a much superior job scouting the opponent while Goran was busy making amateurish predictions while clearly knowing Novak is the inferior competitor on Clay where taking the ball early on such a slow high bouncing court means different level of anticipation to the other surfaces. These r just basic aspects which team Novak seemed to take for granted or too cavalier about not doing the proper homework to counterpunch or devise strategies the way team Nadal game planned. Geometry of the court was utilised vs no.1 whose base game won’t cut it vs the Clay specialists & as we saw nearly cost him vs all courter Tsitsi. Might b time to cut ties w/ Goran as he seems to b amounting to a dead weight. Meanwhile, HC season can’t arrive soon enough.

Don't post too much these days but I couldn't possibly miss the match thread where Rafa finally catches up with Roger's slam total. To do it three easy sets against his toughest rival and in his worst possible RG conditions is just ridiculous. Two UE in the first set & three in the second while playing his most aggressive brand of tennis explains the scoreline in those sets. Djokovic did not play poorly during rallies and indeed tended to take most points where Nadal left the slightest opening. Problem was those opening were few and far between.

I'll admit that I didn't fancy Nadal's chances going into this; I became even more pessimistic when I saw the roof was closed from the outset. Nadal's tactics against Schwartzman were effective for neutralizing a shorter player with a more aggressive game but they would have left him much more vulnerable to Djokovic's BH especially. But thankfully I could could count on two hands the number of times Rafa hit loopy DTL BH's; instead he ended several points with an absolutely devastating CC BH. Don't think I've seen that shot be so reliable for him in a high pressure match for a few years at least. Nadal's footwork was also exceptional and that allowed him to hit a few vintage crosscourt IOFH to even more devastating effect than his CC BH. Djokovic OTOH looked more and more flat on his feet as the first two sets progressed. You know things are bad for him when he starts doing his Matrix impression. o_O

I do think it was ridiculous to have cameras occasionally cutting to clear skies and sunlight eventually leaking onto the court. I'm glad they have the roof now and would welcome more indoor clay events but I really do hope that RG remains an outdoor event first and foremost in the future.

Congrats to all the active Rafa supporters and it's nice to see some other old timers coming out of the woodwork too. :D

Has Anyone Seen @bhdtl and @DjokoKing Its Been A Long Time Please Come Back We Are Waiting For You 😂
:whistle:i mixed up Djokoking with Djoker and a few others bearing similar names. Actually bhdtl is too thin-faced. I will post again if I were him. No need to be that serious for a message board. Y know, we won't be seeing his "red" face, LOL
