I've decided to make some changes to how the game works for the new season.

Firstly, the scoring system will change. Below is the new scoring system:

Code:
Correct picks Points awarded
1............ 10
2............ 30
3............ 60
4............ 100
5............ 150
6............ 200
7............ 250
8............ 300
9............ 360
10........... 420 etc
This scoring table will be used to create a "base" score. Any match where the winning player has odds of between 1.64 & 2.08 will receive the listed points for the corresponding streak length. Matches where the winner has odds outside of this range will have the points awarded adjusted to allow for picking a favourite or an underdog.

The rankings will also change to work in a very similar way to how the official ATP rankings work. Your best 18 weeks of the past 52 will now count towards your ranking.

I am currently in the process of retrospectively changing the rankings. As soon as I'm finished I'll post the year end rankings.

Please let me know your thoughts on the changes.

The way I saw it, this game was about creating a "win streak". Not about picking the correct outsiders. IMO, the game should only reward streaks. A streak of 5 should get the same points as another streak of 5. If an underdog win gets more points than an odds-on win, it changes the game significantly, IMO.

I see where you're coming from, but on the flip side if each weekend players are backing Djokovic to win at odds of 1.10 then there isn't much skill in doing that. Very few players have backed players at odds of greater than 2.08 and won, however because of the lack of matches to choose from at weekends lots of streaks have been inflated by picking short priced favourites.

This change would affect, at most, around half of the matches, with the majority of those matches being played on finals weekends.

Wow, good to see the game I have proposed 7 years ago is still alive. :worship:

In the original game, I proposed some handicaps where there was a clear favourite ...

For example,

"
1. (Murray 2-0 and wins with -3.5 handicap) vs. (Ljubicic wins at least 1 set or wins with +3.5 handicap) (Indian Wells)
2. (Federer 2-0) vs. (Verdasco wins at least 1 set) (Indian Wells)
"

I would be interested to be a new participant of this game in 2016 :)

I am ok with this as long as there is only one match per day. If people can start choosing there own match then that ruins the game as it's too similar to Suicide Tennis.

Also @lukela85 can I take management for weeks 1 and 2? And I was thinking I'd make a manager thread to get more people involved, including a managerial guide and a record of managers

sounds good to me, like Arsenalex.
on the other hand, inputs from Pratik and Litotes make sense.

how about the workload if lukela's new plan is to be implemented?
is it cost effective?

Sorry guys I thought I'd posted before but must have forgotten! Unfortunately the game isn't returning for a new season. Thanks to all those who played but unfortunately it never became popular enough & I also felt the scoring system was flawed with no real amicable solution to be found between the players.

hi lukela,

sorry about your frustration regarding a number of the WinStread players.

i can as i believe, follow your feeling, but at the same time, i would like to assure you the beauty of the Winstreak. Pratik, an experienced MTFer, as i remember, also evaluated highly.

you say that the issue you are working is the scoring system, then you can place a poll to see how Winstreak players think about it.

i would say it is better to resume, the sooner the better. and what about a scoring system either the latest or the original, whichever a game manager 's workload is minimal.

the basic game design is excellent and there is still hope for it to become popular in the long run. here on this point, i would like you to suggest maintaining the game per se as soon as possible. hope you will give it consideration.

at the closing of this post, thanks lukela, for inventing such an attractive game design. have a nice day. :hatoff:

I thought it was pretty popular and the solution was to continue with the same system we had last year and not to change anything, this just seems like a cop out.

I agree I thought the game was very popular and I really enjoyed playing it, I believe it's simplicity in its basic game design and ranking system is its greatest strength. In my opinion the game was working fine as it was and doesn't need changing. I really hope you may change your mind.

There has been no frustration at other Win Streak players.

At the end of the day my intention was to improve the game trucul started many years ago but unfortunately it hasn't worked out that way. How I would like the game to develop clearly isn't popular & in a selfish way why should I continue to run a game I feel is now badly flawed (ie easy to predict matches & a poor scoring system - both issues I created when restarting the game)? That is no criticism of other players thoughts - everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm glad you all enjoyed playing the game but there isn't really a solution to move the game forward with.

Sadly when compared to other games on MTF (Tennis Tipping, Suicide Tennis etc) the game really wasn't very popular. On average only 10 people were playing each day & I had hoped 20+ players would play regularly. I'm glad you enjoyed playing. You were certainly better at the game than me

Ok guys so I've been thinking things over overnight.

I can't deny I enjoyed running the game so...

My proposal is to start the game over from new starting from the Australian Open, in the following format, which is how the game started with @trucul running it:

Each day I'll look at all the matches due to be played and pick accordingly. If there is no close match then:

Either a handicap will be applied ie Djokovic (-6.5) vs Raonic (+6.5)

Or

Player A/B to win a set, so Djokovic 2-0 vs Raonic to win a set.

The more important a tournament the more points you earn. A streak at a 250 would start at 5 points, with a 500 starting at 10, 1000 at 15 & GS at 20 points.

Finally, your ranking will consist of the 4 Grand Slams, 8 best of 9 ATP 1000's & 6 best other results (ATP 500's/250's).

Please let me know your thoughts.
