To me it was all domination of the tour, nothing less.

In 2011 Novak was at his very best, especially when you take into account Roger and Rafa who were still playing really really good.
Though the serve is now much better...

2011 runaway best

2018=2015, also peaked both times on grass.

2015>2011>2018

No1e didn't have a good serve in 2011.

In 2015, he was literally botting while returning like a god and was able to win points much easier and was a way more complete player. He broke down physically in the end of 2011, which he didn't in 2015 because he had a much better serve and didn't need to work as hard for every point.

In 2018 he was nowhere near his best on grass but still good enough against Nadal (he would've destroyed Nadal in 3 otherwise).

In 2018, he really started playing great at the USO and especially Shanghai. And he's not done improving.

1. 2015: Less aggressive than 2011 but more clutch and smarter. More variety and better serve. Worse BH.

2. 2011: Baseline aggression peak. Breathtaking and unbelievable streak.

3. 2018: Still not at 2015 or 2011 level but slowly reaching there.

2011 was Novak's physical peak, and I believe it was when he was most dominant from the baseline. At that time he also had the most energy and quick speed. However, he was not as complete of a player or as tactically strong as he is now. By 2015 his serve improved a lot, volleys and net-game in general improved a lot and he learned how to construct/end points quicker. And at this point in 2018 he seems pretty much as good as he was in 2015, or at least close to it.

Hard to say which is the best ultimately, but I would give a slight edge to 2015 Novak as being the best overall.

It's tough to pick between 2011 and 2015. In 2011 his baseline game was better, best it's even been, but serve was worse. In 2011 he faced way better competition than in 2015. Better oposition plus worse serve made him break down physically before the season was over in 2011. In 2015 he was able to cary on until the end.

While I consider 2015 to be his best version it's hard to go against his achievements in 2011 with the kind of opposition he had back then.

The 2015 and 2018 fields are SO much weaker than 2011 it's very hard to give a true estimate of which version is better.

Even though the serve was clearly worse in 2011 and the all court game was not where it is today, I still consider it the best version of him I ever saw. The sheer number of insane matches he produced that season beats anything else.

His form during the 2015 Asian swing was scary, on par with his 2011 best.

2018 (post W obviously) is very good but still below 2015.

I think the 2015 version of Djokovic definitely has an edge over the 2011 version. Athletes don't typically hit their peak physically until their late 20s and Djokovic was only 28 in 2015. He also had a legitimately better serve and that can not be overstated. The 2018 version while still looking great at this point just isn't quite at the level of either of those previous years, but it isn't far from 2011 considering the much better serve and the amount of free points he is getting on it.

2015 = 2011 > 2018.

different aspect of his games were a bit better/worse in 2011 vs 2015 but overall at the same level.

The 2018 is still lower but enough to dominate the tour and humiliate the next gen (Zverev, Coric).
Not sure if his 2019 level will go above 2011/15 but it will be an amazing year.

Second NCYGS, and even CYGS with 6 in a row, are not out of reach at all.

Novak was 64-2 until September including 43-match winning streak and 10-1 against Fedal. Absolutely mental!

2015
Phenomenal season, his best by accomplishements but it's slightly lower than 2011 in my book (6 wins over prime Nadal are decisive here)

2018
Novak wasn't a factor in tournaments for 4 months so what are we really comparing? He's very strong now but this period is too short.

“I played against a player who did everything perfect. I know nobody playing tennis like this ever. Since I know this sport, I never saw somebody playing at this level”

Rafa Nadal, Doha, January 2016. I would look for ND's peak somewhere in that period. He went on to win AO and RG in 2016.

In terms of years, I'll say 2015, 2011, 2018.
