A new year, a new Australian Open and a fresh Roger Federer - a classic combo, especially as of late. :clapsss:

But what awaits? :pop:

Roger's projected draw:

Round 1: Denis Istomin
Round 2: Qualifier
Round 3: Monfils
Round 4: Stefanos Tsitsipas
QF: Marin Cilic
SF: Rafael Nadal / Kevin Anderson
F: Novak Djokovic

Full PDF downloadable draw

So first up for Fed is Denis Istomin who famously beat Djokovic at the 2017 Australian Open. He plays the night session at 8 pm Melbourne time on Rod Laver Arena.

I'm sure Roger's projected draw will be torn up by day 3 or 4 so hopefully, he can take care of his end of things and get into the business end of the tournament where anything can happen.

This will be Roger's outfit this year:

Go Rog! :cheerleader:

Istomin is playing better in set three and the match is more competitive now.

2-2 in 3rd set

Won in straight sets without facing break point. Although there were loose stray shots overall I’m happy with the results

The Fedster wins again! It was tough, it was gruelling, it was nervy and it was exciting. Evans was playing great tennis with solid serving and a well constructed ground game.

It took Federer quite a while to get a groove going. There were mistakes and the return was not great today. I suspect all this has quite a bit to do with it being a day session in Australia, Roger doesn't bring out his very best in these matches.

But boy there were points of beauty in there as well. It was not a complete performance but it was a good one nonetheless against a fired up opponent. According to offical stats it was 56 W to 17 UEs, and winning 74 per cent of his net points (45/61).

For the first time since the semis of 2017 Wimbledon, Federer wins two back-to-back tiebreaks in a tour level match.

Onwards RF!

7-6(5) 7-6(3) 6-3

The Fedster does it again! He was quite sharp today against the young flat hitter Taylor Fritz. Enjoyable to watch.

But the barage of yougsters doesn't stop just yet - next up is Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece whom Roger beat at the Hopman Cup in two close sets with 2 tiebreaks.

Good luck Rog!
