AO revenge failed, Meddy got Bonzied by Tien the Learner.
Not an ideal way to get to your first ATP 500 final with two opponents retiring in a row, but Tien was the better player today and totally deserved it.
Now beat Sinner!

The weather is dry in Beijing, I can't figure out why Medvedev cramped

Disgusting umpire. Sad for Meddy. First Final for Tien. Good tournament for him

Medvedev was about to serve for the match in straights but he's still a nervous wreck so he struggled to seal it I feel...I wonder if the cramps are due to nervousness because he looked fine early on in the match but then got his hand and then legs got cramps after — it's frankly hard to say if it's genuine or not with his recent antics, but I do think nervous cramping seems more likely IMO.

I still don't understand Medvedev getting a warning for trying to play with cramps. Umpire isn't a doutor to judge if he faked or not.
That umpire was a moron. Who on earth would give a warning to a player due to cramping?
This is why players shouldn’t be dickheads to umpires: I don’t think Medvedev is going to get the benefit of the doubt from ANY umpire after the moves he’s pulled throughout his career. He’s exhausted that supply of goodwill, and that’s tough shit for him.

God forbid the umpires make fair and appropriate calls regardless of who's the player in question. AKA actually doing their job properly and not calling random violations based on past grudges.

Besides, players who behave badly have also often gotten extra leeway/benefit of the doubt in terms of lack of violations/penalties. See Kyrgios and...Medvedev himself. So the logic doesn't exactly hold up. The only consistency in umpiring nowadays is that they are consistently inconsistent.

This is the 4th time that Medvedev has lost this year whilst serving for the match.

Tien x2 (Australian Open & here) Wu last week & Norrie at the French Open.

Medvedev led against Wu & Tien by the exact scoreline 7-5,5-3... and still lost.Completes the Chinese Double choke.

He's also lost his last 6 matches whilst either serving for the match or by being ahead by a set and losing in the decider.

He also choked a service break lead against Bonzi in the 5th set at the US OPEN as well.

3 of his 4 slam losses this year have all been chokes in the 5th set where he's led by a service break in the 5th set.

An absolute disaster of a year to forget.

Hard to believe that Tien took out Medvedev for the 2nd time in a row after Meddy was serving for the match, he has some serious mental issues atm and might as well just call it quits for the year - not only does he have serious mental issues, but even physical issues too after getting cramps only 2 hours into a match...

I was a fan, let's say rather positive towards Medvedev. I always said he is Kult in german, like a legend.
But his disrespectful behaviour towards referees has gone too far. He must be disqualified and get banned for 3 months or so.

Three months and mandatory psych evals before he's allowed back on the court. Med needs some meds.

Learner "the Retirement Plan" Tien
Impressive effort! I often feel he mirrors his opponents (when he can) and he once again outlasted Daniel in a very physical match.

Hope he can hang with Sinner for a set, maybe he'll draw more cramping (Sinner had some kind of niggle today apparently)
