well i don't think so

English can be very frustrating, especially when you try to explain technically a match. It eventually goes with "he played better and better etc"

I also like the "mobylette" stories.
(When he has to run a lot all over the court, he calls that "to ride his moped" - not sure it makes much sense in English, but it cracks me up in French. )

I watched the last set of the Chela match yesterday evening, he was looking really great, very safe from the baseline too, like in Pörtschach - but boy, after 10 minutes I was already sick of them showing Tarik after every single point and sometimes even during the points!

Yesterday's article in L'Équipe was about the 3 factors which explain his good run: Tarik / Paris / the fun.
Tarik says the rain break helped Gael because he was doing something wrong in his defending game. After the break he was much more imaginative and charged the net more than ever.
Gael's father: Gael wanted to work with Tarik for 4 years now and you can see on the court how happy he is about this collaboration.
Gael likes the fact that Tarik is so 'lively' and reacts so much during the matches. It was good because he was "slackening off" at some time. And the journalist explains that Tarik said exactly the same thing a few minutes before, using exactly the same words, although he hadn't spoken with Gael yet.
The question is why he is now listening to Tarik and playing in a more offensive way, whilst everybody has been telling him to do so for so long now. Gael just answers he likes the way Tarik talks to him. For example, Tarik asks him to hit as hard as possible and has a good laugh when some of his shots are landing outside of the court. That's the kind of things Gael loves of course, lol.
Tarik means Gael can hold up very long physically. Journalists remind him of the cramps against Rochus, but Tarik answers it was just because of the emotions.
Gael himself is surprised he feels so well physically. That means he has been working well in the past few months. He means he's at 80% of his abilities. Will 80% be enough against the world number 18? He has only one wish: no cramps.
As for the pressure, as soon as he does his best and has fun, there is no pressure anymore.
But he admits he can improve the way he starts his matches. His father means it's typical for Black people, they are like a "diesel" motor, they need a long "warming-up".

And another article today about the way Tarik works with him:
Quote:
DOMINIQUE BONNOT
Gael keeps cool, he doesn't feel like "Yes, Gael Monfils is back!" He's been very quiet and just working for months now and he finally starts feeling better on the court, he dares take more risks now.
Take more risks, that's what Tarik keeps telling him: "You're not hitting as hard as you could!" It makes Gael laugh, but that's what he needs. He's a kid who enjoys playing tennis and sharing his enthusiasm with the people, so you have to let him play the way he likes it. He reminds Tarik of Roddick (hitting very hard + the way he deals with the pressure and the challenges). Tarik just asks him to be much more offensive and he doesn't mind when the ball is landing more often in the canvas cover than in the court. It will take time to adjust. For now, Gael has managed to avoid being out of the top 100, having to play qualies, etc. and that's important.
But Nalbo's passing shots are much better than Chela's and Gael will have to be much more careful. Tarik has some plans for this match, but can't say more about it because it's secret and it will also depend on Gael's condition, if he'll be able to do it.

Gael has a real chance versus Nalbandian who doesn't play his best tennis for several weeks.
I'm sure he can do it !

I'm still thinking of the English word for "montée à contre-temps", maybe "sneak attack"? Like "une attaque surprise"? I'm not sure it means exactly the same.

I think that Gael can take out Nalby today. I hope that he will.

It's definitely not the children day at RG anymore. The atmosphere on the Chatrier sucks! Why are those NAPs so uptight? Don't they know Gaël works with energy? He needs his crowd behind him!

Bring back the children!
