Default Re: Clay court season 2007

In l’équipe today:
Quote:

Pourquoi ?
PHILIPPE BOUIN
Here we go again with the coach stories and the guys from "Renaissance Tennis" who would like to have him in the US, etc. It is never going to end.

Default Re: Clay court season 2007

The summary:
First Delaître's comments after the match, he says Gael started the match exactly like he tells him to do in training, "loopy" shots, well placed, without forcing. You could see Blake hated that. And then, at 4-1 15-30 on Blake's serve, Gael tried a huge FH return. "Why? I'm wondering too." It put Blake back in the match. Like against Monaco last week in Estoril... (Gael lost 9 points in a row after that).
Gael: "I'm working and I'm not winning. But I'm used to lose in the first round now." "Even though I sometimes play at a good level, I have less confidence. I'm losing all the time, I'm in a mess. I really have to think about it. I can't expect to make a big thing in Paris. If I have a joker, I should play it before the French Open." A joker? Like a new coach? "No no, everything is fine with Olivier... More like a new racket... The same sponsor, of course! But another model..."
But the journalist says it doesn't sound very convincing since a guy of Renaissance Tennis was spotted again in Rome (that's the structure who wants him to train in the US with Benhabiles and always offers him huge amounts of money for that, the story has been going on for a while now).
When people tell him it's not possible to switch over night from the level zero to the top level, he protests: "I don't think so. Maybe for the others; but not for me. Look, last year, I was in a slump before Rome and I made it to the semi-final. This year I was slumping badly before the AO and I played the best match of my career against Baghdatis".
I can't translate the comparisons at the end, but the idea is he doesn't seem to notice that after those little "highlights", like the Baggy match, he always falls even deeper.

It's really not very encouraging... I wasn't feeling too bad about his defeat because I thought he was "in safe hands", but it looks like it's a complete mess one more time.

He's playing in Zagreb this week.
He beat Dusan Lojda (who just won the Prague Challenger) 6-3 7-5.
He plays now the winner of Zovko-Mektic (never heard of these 2 guys...)

Gael's match is live on bwin (with livestream).
Last time I checked it, Hanescu was serving for the set, but I see Gael finally managed to win the first set 7-5.

4-1 Hanescu with double break in the 2nd set. ^^

He won 7-5 6-4.
Maybe I got it wrong last time and it was 4-1 for Gael, I wasn't watching. Or he made another comeback in the 2nd set.

Anyway, he won, next: Tipsarevic.

And he is in the draw of Pörtschach (I thought he would maybe skip it and rather get ready for RG with his new coach - "apprendre à se connaître", as Tarik said ^^):
(7) LEE, Hyung-Taik KOR v UDOMCHOKE, Danai THA
(WC) MONFILS, Gael FRA v QUERREY, Sam USA
PLESS, Kristian DEN v QUALIFIER
(WC) PEYA, Alexander AUT v (2/WC) RODDICK, Andy USA
