Default Re: Clay Court Season 2007

I know it's positive, all in all, but he really was only serve and heart yesterday, that was a bit frustrating to watch.
At least he went down fighting, it could have been painful against Davydenko in the next round playing like that.

Here's his interview in L'Équipe:
Quote:
– Quel premier bilan faitesvous ?

Default Re: Clay Court Season 2007

He says the crowd was indeed pretty quiet, but supported him at least at the end of the sets.
As for the BP he missed in the 3rd set, he means he had no chance on 3 of them, but on one point, he should have done what Tarik tells him, which is charging the net. He moved back to the baseline and that was a real error. Then he was really annoyed by a decision of the chair umpire and lost his concentration.
He wasn't tired at the end, even in doubles mixed he was feeling fine (he played immediately after his singles match and they lost). It was all about Nalby playing incredible shots in the key moments. The lobs 'killed' him.
All in all, he's pretty happy. He proved a lot of things: that he can hold up, move forward, hit hard with the FH. He was serving very well. Not as hard as he can and still, he hit a lot of aces (25). Mentally, he likes what he did. At 0-2 in the 4th set, everybody was down, even Tarik looked 'cold'. He proved he's a warrior. On the other hand, in the 3rd set, he didn't 'have the balls' to come to the net and take his chance.
Overall he's satisfied, but you always want more! A 3rd round is crappy. Gamewise, it gives him confidence, but he wants more. He'll have to work to be consistent for more than 3 weeks. Last year he was playing worse, but at least he reached the 1/8 and he would have preferred that. It's like the World Cup (soccer), France was playing well, but they lost.
He wants to do well in doubles with Ouanna now, he's eager to play against the Bryans. Then he will take 2 days rest. His grass season: Queen's and Wimbledon.

Tarik: He had his chances. But instead of moving forward by hitting the ball, he was moving backward and that was the key. He can improve his power on both sides, maybe developping his back muscles would help. He was lacking power, but the important thing is that he's back at his level, he fought like a lion, he can only improve from now on.

It was frustrating watching Gael play yesterday. Some of his shot selection choices were just strange . It is clear that when he plays aggressively that he has the upper hand .

On the bright side, at least he's winning matches again and I'm sure that there will be more improvements under Tarik. I'd say he did well to try to salvage his clay season.

Good win, but they have to play the Bryans' next.

It's looking good so far, he is one break up in the third.
(I'm still though, it was a bit of a struggle when he had to serve the 2nd set out, I hope he will spare us that this time.)

He also has a new outfit, I'm happy.

5-4, serving for the match, allez!

I meant at 5-3*, the SB said 0-15 and then went to 30-0
How much longer can they play, isn't it getting dark?
